Those were compact trucks. The question was do/did midsized trucks ever have "truck" engines. The answer is yes. The 2nd gen's 1GR was designed for rear drive body-on-frame applications only and was a truck engine. The Dodge Dakota had several engines that were basically pulled from the truck lineup. The 5.2 V8 and it's V6 derivative the 3.9 along with the 4.7 and 5.9 V8s would be considered "truck" engines.

If memory serves me right, the 1st gen Colorado had an optional iron block 5.3 LS V8 lifted straight from the half ton full size rigs.

 

I have around 66k on my 17. Probably 60k of that has been in S5 all the time lol. My truck runs fine, even with 33" E's on it. In S5 it has a final drive about the same as the 5AT of a second gen.

All jokes aside, people just don’t know how to use it. It even says in the manual to use S mode in hilly terrains. And still to this day, we have threads like “my truck shifted 135 times while going uphill on the highway”.

Today’s midsize trucks are so light duty that you can put any engine in it and it will still be fine.

 

This is my favorite. Trolls show up, start shit, get fired back at, then wrap up with this old chestnut. Lots of faults with the third gen, pick one. It is helpful to start your argument from a position of truth though.

Like are there guys from the 3rd gen trolling the 2nd gen section? I don't know if I have ever been over there. Why would I care what some other guy drives or thinks of his truck?

Honestly I am surprised after 7 years it hasn't gotten tiresome. Also surprised the mods don't clamp down on it more.
