Just depends on how you look at it. Sure, there were plenty of 318 and 360 mills in cars back in the day. But they were in plenty of trucks as well. Truck versions tended have small tweaks over their car applications

Those same “truck” engines were in Cherokees which don’t fit your description of a truck.

Small tweaks? Like the tuning differences in the 3.5 from Camry to Tacoma?

Might be time for a new monitor. That one you have is about 10 years old.

I was talking more about increased cooling capacity, charging capacity, crank main bearing count, etc.

I never defined what a truck was. And none of those engines were ever used transversely.

    It's FRIDAY!!!!!!

I love the fact that all the 2nd genners prefer to spend their time on the best Tacoma forum instead of their own forum:rofl:
Thanks guys, you're always welcome here, :D

But fret not, because mike sweers has a message for you:
---Mike Sweers, chief engineer for the 2016 Toyota Tacoma pickup, said his team turned to steel to meet aggressive targets to improve body and frame rigidity and strength while reducing mass. “We looked at the design; we looked at the materials, and together, with our different groups, we realized that the solution was clear,” he said. “High-strength steel and ultrastrength steel helped us to optimize our design and reduce the mass of our vehicle.”

oh and yes, all Tacomas are slow in the 1/4 mile, but the 3rd gen is definitely faster than the 2nd gen. And according to NASA it is mostly due to the 2nd gens ugly rear fender/well design that affects air flow. Literally scares the air into turbulence, which causes extra drag:confused: strange.

The CDC doctors said that this fender design has deleterious effects on peoples mental state. Looking at it is like biting into a rotten lime. just makes people angry and bitter and studies have shown that in areas where there are more 2nd gens, crime has gone up.

One of the major improvements to the truck was getting rid of this FUGLY FENDER and all was well again. Areas with lots of 3rd gens tend to be the safest parts of town.

Nah.....2nd gens are slower because we have rear drum brakes and a non-locking fuel door.

    Oh wait......o_O

Supposed to be. But apparently some don't see the 2GR as fit for being in a truck. If you grew up in the era of 80hp Mazda Bs and Toyota trucks, as I did, you would come to appreciate things more

My mistake for taking this to mean it must be body on frame to be a truck. So moving the goal posts again... now if it was ever transverse its a car engine?
