Sorry if this thread is common. I have a 2014 xspx tacoma. I have the original media system which is the bland old ui with random crashes. Ive been wanting to get a new one with car play. I personally use android. One feature I really want that the reviews never show is the adaptive backup camera lines. I know its a small feature but when I turn a wheel and see the lines move it feels like a premium feature. My normal backup camera has the blue lines that dont move. I also dont have navagation in my truck. I assume that with car play it would just connect via my phones. My price range is $500 or less. Any brand recommendations? Any help is much appreciated.

I have this and I really like it. Two of my friends borrowed my car that has the same stereo and liked it so much they bought it as well.
If you get the adapter to make the steering wheel controls work, it might go past $500 but it's worth it.
I'd get the Schoche bezel for it as well and a parking brake delete switch.

I have a Kenwood DNX996XR head unit with CarPlay that displays the lines when backing up. I'm using a Maestro for steering wheel controls and OBD2data (which you'll need for the backup lines) and that alone is like $150 if I'm remembering correctly so it's going to be tough to keep this under $500.

Seems interesting. The main website says discontinued and thet have a few on Amazon but due to them no longer being built the price is $999. Maybe they have a new model I hope.

I’ve got a Sony head unit and really like it. Go to Crutchfield’s site and poke around. They’ll have everything you need.

There is a new model. If you don't want DVD player there is a less expensive model too, just not sure what the model numbers are. Problem is a lot of stuff is backordered because of the chip shortage.

I currently have a Sony XAV-AX100 that was a carryover from my previous vehicle. I chose it for two reasons, it has a volume knob as well as dedicated track skip buttons. The only challenge I have with it is that in the Schoshe mount, the volume knob is a bit hard to reach, and with it being on the firm side, it’s not always easy to make the necessary volume adjustments. Since my truck is a base model without steering wheel controls (something I’ve been researching how to add, but haven’t pulled the trigger yet), I’ve been considering changing out to the Joying 8” unit. The larger screen and more factory appearance is also appealing.

I got the 1000 in my car and the 5000 in my truck. The 5000 has a larger screen and I don't miss the volume knob with my steering wheel controls.

I just upgraded mine from a Kenwood if you’re interested in it. Haven’t had a chance to list it for sale yet.

same setup here, I think the key here is to find a reasonably priced unit compatible with the maestro rr

Something I found out - due to the screen size requirements, Volume knob and andriod auto / carplay will be very hard to find.

I have the Kenwood excelon 760s, decent unit for the price, but sure wish it had physical track buttons.

Once I get the steering wheel controls done it wont be an issue.
