I don’t where you got this photo but I’m pretty sure it’s one my buddy built and sold. He buys restores and sells 1st & 2nd gen Camaros and Chevelles.


Edit: I dug through my archives of numerous machines he’s done. Looks like I was wrong, pretty similar though.

 

The Corvette purists are shaking in their boots seeing a ‘63 spit window made into a drag car. I personally love it.

It's got nothing to do with it being a Corvette, for me. It's just the shear stupidity of taking a car worth big bucks and cool as-is... and wasting it. He coulda taken a worthless '72 Opel Manta and had a car just as fast.

 

My uncle had a Manta. It was a nice ride. Maroon with a black top - just like this one.

 

Yep, such an awesome look, never understood why some people keep with the straight bumpers. There’s a cherry ‘70 running around my area and the only thing that bothers me about that car is the front bumper.

 

Yep, I agree. We had this discussion in this thread a few months ago. I was the one in your shoes while others fought me on it. I still love the look of an early Vette as a drag car. I cringe and would never build one myself. I’m a purist at heart.

 

Yeah, Vettes are just good design, even the less popular ones. But why take a 100K car and turn it into a 20/30K (even 50?) drag car? Nuts... Do it with anything you can get for under a grand.

 

I had a buddy that raced. He built one because, "Nobody builds an Opel." and he got a lot of people razzing him. They weren't nearly as smug when he blew their doors off and collected the side bets.

 

Consider the possibility that the "donor" car they built the drag car from was so far beyond economical restoration that it's only lease on new life was as a race car.
