My bud found one of these is bad shape, hired a local place to "restore" it, it sat in the garage for 2 years with minimal progress, he got it out of there just before the place went BK. Lots of parts were sold off to try to keep the shady business afloat. It was painted bright red. I helped put in the torsion bars ( major pita ) and a few other two person jobs.

He immediately sold it after completing it, and took a bath in the lost $$$,$$$.$$ - sad.

I'm old, ha. I do have a memory of a young guy filling a massive tank on a 410 c.i. Mercury wagon for 99c a gallon. Shit... that was me

 

Remember gas wars ? I was still riding my bike, my dad would go to a different station because it was a penny cheaper

 

Yeah, paper route days. The family 455 didnt do well.

That 99c a gallon hurt at 18 years old too. Time sure changes perspective

 

I remember a period where license plates ending in even or odd numbers could only get gas or even or odd days. My dad and my older brother swapped plates sometimes depending upon who unexpectedly needed to fuel up for whatever reason.

 

And you couldn’t bring an extra gas can. My mother had some pretty interesting stories from WW 2, in regards to cars. Gas coupons, couldn’t buy tires, nobody complained

 

I remember sitting in long lines with my Dad on the days that matched our license plate.

 

I was working at a Chevron and Union 76 in the Bay area of Norcal during the Gas wars and Odd even Days . The gas stations I worked at would run out of gas before the end of shift

When I started driving in 1976 the price was .60 per gal
