Back before Mercedes imported the G wagon, a small company from Santa Fe used to import 100 a year and make them legal in US. They sold all 100 every year, that was when G wagons were rare and cool! Now every one is driven by a millionaire soccer mom, or a guy that comes off as a db.
One of my sons classmates Mom has one, has to be the tackiest G wagon on earth, metallic forest green exterior with dark red interior, AMG package.
I'd still drive the hell out of the 6x6 G wagon though

 

I want the one Hammond was driving in Abu Dhabi. When I was at Al Dhafra there was a tour we could take out to that and run around on these Polaris 4x4s. Occasionally, we'd see a Land Cruiser, custom Hilux, Raptor, and even the occasional unimog running around out there.

I love G wagons. Would daily one for sure, preferrably blacked out like that. I'll completely agree that they can give off the douche-canoe vibe.

Rest assured, I haven't produced any spawn. At least in this country. That I'm aware of. Yet.

 

Ya me too... I've been seeing it around at the local shows and I can't stop staring at it. It's clean, simple, big nasty big block, fat ass tires. It sounds incredible when fired up. Rumor was it was 600+HP.

I'd love to do one of these with a modern turbo diesel. BJ sells these for 6 figures all day long. I know where I can get an empty but good body/frame that rolls for $9500. I'd want to redo everything it doesn't have anyway. But, I have to get my 442 on the road before I even think about any other projects . . .

I would love to have any old dodge but not sure if diesel of just a nice V8.

 

I always liked the old Town Wagons (still do) but they're rarer than hen's teeth.


But, I'm pretty happy with my '69. It'd be cool if it was a 4x4, but since it's a 2wd it's a lot less stiffly sprung so it cruises a lot nicer than if it was a 4x4. Not that it's a smooth ride; leaves at all 4 corners and an I-beam front axle aren't exactly tuned for comfort.
