    2017 Carlisle Truck Nationals

This is the second or third time I've seen this truck at this event. 2014 was the first time I saw and photographed it, I'm pretty sure I saw it in 2016 but didn't photograph (as I have no pics of it from 2016), and most recently in 2017. It's a roughly 1982-1985 Ford Ranger XLT (CARFAX is not working right now so I can't run the license plate at the moment). Aside from the obvious fact that it has been lowered and body-dropped, this truck is virtually stock. The exterior paint seems to be original, and not only does this truck NOT have a powerful stereo system, it doesn't even have a radio! The radio (or at least where the radio used to be) is what helped me narrow down the approximate year of this truck. It has an old shaft-style opening, indicating that this truck would be about a 1985 at the very newest. I know more about Chevy trucks than Ford trucks, but I believe that the 1st gen Rangers (and Bronco IIs) switched from a shaft-style radio opening to the updated single-DIN opening in 1986. This truck also has a factory automatic transmission. Until 1989 redesign, the Ford Ranger was the only American truck at the time to have a floor-mounted shifter on automatic models (I'm not counting the Mitsubishi-produced Dodge D50; Chevy S10s and GMC S15s had column-shifts on automatic models, as did the Dodge Dakota when it debuted in 1986 as a 1987 model). Slushbox-equipped Bronco IIs also had floor-mounted shift levers until 1989.

Anyway, note that this truck is presently (as of 2017) registered in West Virginia...

Here is one of the pictures I took at the 2014 Truck Nationals. You will notice two things here; The truck does not have a back bumper, and it is registered in Pennsylvania... TruckNationals2014 7321.jpg

This sticker, present in the 2014 photos as well as this 2017 photo, might have say something about the owner's abrupt relocation: TruckNationals2017Day2 5450.jpg

I love living in Pennsylvania, primarily because my parents and I have lived here since 2005, a lot of my family lives close by, and I've got a good job. However, if this guy has the same gripes about Pennsylvania that I do (alcohol laws, YEARLY safety inspections for ALL motor vehicles not registered as antique/classic, YEARLY emissions testing for all gas-powered passenger vehicles and light trucks newer than 1974, high taxes, etc)...

I agree with him (or her)!

It's also possible the truck had this sticker in the window when the person bought the truck, but as someone who's called Pennsylvania home for more than a decade, I see where they're coming from!

Anyway, the reason I love this truck is because it lowered, but it still looks somewhat stock. I've photographed quite a few of these "Lowered Stock" trucks over the years, and I will be posting them in my Asperger's Thread!

    Meet "Economac"!

This is (and is not) what you think it is!

It is not a rare Ford cabover big rig that has been customized. Aside from the inspiration for the design, I am 99.9% sure there is nothing "Mack" about this vehicle. It is a 1961-1967 Ford Econoline van that has been heavily modified. I have no idea how the owner built it, aside from the obvious fact that he cut a section out of the original van body and shortened it. I took a closer look at some of the pictures I took while it was parked and I believe the owner/builder may have in fact used most of the original frame.

"Economac" is not a mere show vehicle vehicle, either!

It has an automatic transmission, A/C, power windows, and a custom stereo system. I did not see the engine, but if I had to guess, I'd say it has a 302 or 351 under the hood, er, cab...

Here is another example of an old "farm truck" or "shop truck" that was lowered but left largely stock in just about every other way. In this case, it is a 1982 Chevolet C10 Custom Deluxe with the 4.1L/250cid I-6 engine and 3-speed column-shifted manual transmission. This is a no-frills pickup truck. It has no A/C and no power anything (maybe power steering and brakes). I looked through the window and the owner has added a modern stereo system with CD player and USB/AUX inputs (and presumably new speakers), but this truck is about as basic as they come!

As I've said before, I have come to absolutely love these "lowered stock" trucks!
