Here's a late 1980s Cavalier the way Chevrolet should have built it!

    April 12th, 2015:

    Quakertown, Pennsylvania

At first glance, it appears to be a normal Chevy Cavalier with custom paint and custom wheels...

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 789.jpg

Through 1994, the Cavalier was available with a V6 engine (2.8L in older models like this one, and 3.1L from about 1991-1994), and this example has a V6...

While this engine was rather lackluster in certain vehicles (like the S-series trucks), in my opinion it made the Cavalier quite competitive in its class! Aside from the fact that the factory A/C is missing some parts, everything under the hood is largely intact!

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 777.jpg

Looking at this car from the rear, nothing seems out of place...

    But wait...

Why is there a truck-style rear slider in place of the traditional rear window?!?!

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 793.jpg

Nothing out of the ordinary with the interior, either. This old Cavalier has an aftermarket Pioneer head unit, which is a common upgrade, and it also has an aftermarket steering wheel...

You will notice that this car has an automatic transmission, but wait...

    Why are there two gearshifts?!?!

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 781.jpg

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 775.jpg

Again, why are there two gearshifts?!?!
    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 776.jpg

    Wait a minute...

    What's this?!?!

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 773.jpg

This homemade creation has a 3.1L V6 and complete FWD drivetrain from another (presumably wrecked) Cavalier! The owner basically built himself a dual-engine, all-wheel drive Cavalier!

    DairyQueenCruiseNightApril12th 780.jpg

These pictures were taken back in April 2015, the first time I saw the car. I've seen this beast at numerous car shows since then, but unfortunately I forget how the owner rigged the two engines together to function as one. For example, since the rear engine is facing backwards, putting both transmissions in drive is likely to cause serious damage to the rear drivetrain unless something has been modified. If I remember correctly, the the owner installed the rear engine parallel to the front engine so all four wheels go in the same direction regardless of whether or not the car is in drive or reverse...

What I do remember for sure is that both engines do operate independently of each other, and it is possible to operate the car in either a FWD or RWD format. Obviously, the front engine is the primary one. Also, the front engine has all of the air-conditioning stuff on it. While the car could be driven solely on the rear engine, it would be in one's best interest to drive using the front engine if they wanted air-conditioning...

    And again!

Also, the info sign in the rear window confirms this is a 1989 model, specifically a 1989 Chevy Cavalier Z24...

I didn't know production was that low on the 454, but I do remember the "SP"...reminds me of the Beaumont SD 396. That was a Canada only "Chevelle" sold at Pontiac dealers back in the day...

The Canadian Pontiac dealers also got a "Chevy II"...the Acadian. The higher end Acadian (equivalent to a Chevy II Nova) was called a Canso, and SD (for Sport Deluxe) was the performance model...

My favorite scene in that whole movie is when the baddies buckle up at the light and the Charger cuts through traffic and goes bolting up the hill.

    Whoa. Much feelings. Such impressed.

I'm conflicted over which one I'd want to molest first. Thinking threesome.

All-original 1985 Chevrolet C-10 Custom Deluxe in Frost White. It has a 305cid/5.0L V8 with a 4-barrel carb (no stinkin' TBI here!) and a 4-speed automatic transmission. This truck is all original, and it's only options are automatic, AM/FM radio, power steering, and power brakes. No A/C and no other options! It was originally a North Carolina truck, and the guy who currently owns it is the second owner.
