Notice the illuminate "snowflake" button by the cigarette lighter. Perhaps air-conditioning is finally an option?!?! The model below (different than the one above) also has heated seats, which in Russia is probably a more important feature than A/C...

The Lada 4x4 is available in quite a few colors, and with an impressive array of options, considering that it is a utilitarian Soviet-era vehicle!

Crude? Yes.
Built like a tank? Yes.
Easy to work on? Yes.
If you get one into the States, will you be the only one in your area who owns one? More than likely, yes!

Seriously, the Lada Riva has got to be one of the most badass vehicles ever built (Do some research on the good old Interweb if you don't believe me)!










Insult the Riva and it's various quirks and shortcomings all you want, but first I would like you to consider that it was produced in various forms all the way through 2012! Production ended in Russia in 2012, but continued in Egypt! They must have been doing something right for it to remain in production for more than 20 years after the iron curtain fell!

And, wouldn't you know it? They even made a pickup truck version!

 

I can't speak for the LADA 4X4 (or Bronto, apparently), but the older model Niva was available in Canada. They were tough as nails, as long as they didn't see any salt...damn things rotted faster than a RAM boxside. A friend had one back in high school, and we used to have a blast getting into spots the bigger trucks couldn't go. They're similar in size and ability to the Suzuki SJ410/SJ416/Samauri. Painfully slow on the road, but climb hills like a mountain goat.

 

The "Bronto" is apparently the most expensive model and has upgraded suspension. Honestly, with a name like "Bronto," it sounds like something Fred Flintstone would drive!

You can bring just about anything into Canada because unlike the United States, Canada doesn't have bullshit emissions regulations. A guy I know who lives in Hong Kong sold his right-hand drive, Euro-spec, early 1990s Bentley Mulsanne to a buyer in Canada. You can also bring JDM beasts like the Mitsubishi Delica vans into Canada, without having to register them as antiques...

Fact. Saw a bunch of those when I was in Bosnia. They rust faster than farts stink. The reason they’re built like tanks is so that they can simply rust longer.
