    @shakerhood

    Here's another somewhat decent example of a prewar Rolls, specifically a 1935 Rolls-Royce 20/25...

    If you look closely, you will see that this automobile has 4-wheel disc brakes. This is not only highly incorrect but takes away from the "feel" of the car and the overall driving experience. All Rolls-Royce models had 4-wheel drum brakes until 1965. The first Rolls-Royce model to have 4-wheel disc brakes was the 1966 Silver Shadow, I believe...

    So I guess you'll just leave Rolls-Royce photos to me, then?

    That is sweet ride...

    This '81 Silver Spirit is currently listed for sale, and can be yours for about $22K!

    She even has the factory Blaupunkt Frankfurt AM/FM radio and Pioneer cassette player!

    And if you look closely under the hood, you'll see that the A/C lines don't have the red and blue fitting indicating that the system has been retrofitted to R134a; 1976-newer Rolls-Royces have the split-level climate system, which is among the best you can get!

    On the other hand, you can stop your extremely expensive prewar RR much more effectively, and getting involved in an accident tends to be hard on value. Six of one, half dozen of the other.

    I definitely appreciate the desire for a vehicle to be restored as close to factory as possible, and I hate the 'restomod' trend of lowering and fitting 20" wheels on a classic car or truck. On the other hand, I appreciate a good 30's or 40's hot rod, and that's just the 'restomod' of 40 years ago, so I realize I'm being hypocritical.

    Lots of the older vehicles you see that are actually driven regularly rather than being set up as static displays have had the original points-style ignitions replaced with electronic ignitions (my '69 has, and I appreciate the ease of driveability) for the sake of simplicity. It's hard to really enjoy driving your classic car if you have to spend time tinkering with the ignition system every time you want to go somewhere in it. Yes, theoretically it takes away from the 'vintage experience' of driving, but it also means that you miss out on the experience of being stranded with a bad set of points or faulty condenser. Just like modern coolants mean you miss out on the experience of having to pull over and let your engine cool off because it boiled the plain water they used when the car was new, and modern brake components mean missing out on inhaling the asbestos that they used to put in the old ones when you adjust your brakes. :laugh:

    Know what I mean? :notsure:
