Same for the 426 Hemi's. When they're running correctly they're amazing motors, but keeping them properly tuned requires a lot of time, especially if they have dual quads on top. The 440's make nearly as much power in stock form, and are much simpler to keep running correctly.

I think the 426 Hemi is more reliable than the 409...

Could be. I've never had the opportunity to own either ( :pout: ), so I can't say for certain either way!

...^^^... Doing this from memory as a kid ... no google used .... :)

IIRC ... The hot 426's that were very conservately rated at 425 HP had a warranty of 90 days or 1 replacement .... I just cant remember if that was for OEM 426's or Mr. Norm's 426's ... and/or IF that was a street or drag strip warranty ...

I was always more of a 440 Six Pack kind of guy anyway... Maybe something in this color combo:

My 'Lottery' car has always been a '68 Charger with a dual quad 426 Hemi bolted to a 4 speed, but in reality I'd be just as happy if it had a 440/6 or a 383 with a single 4bbl. Or even a 360, a 340, a 318, or a 225 /6. As long as it was metallic dark blue and a '68, I'd be happy :D

I thought that the Hemi's had a 10k warranty for the street models, but if you were caught racing that it was void. Could be wrong, though. I wasn't even born for almost 20 years after my dream car was built.

I'm not Dodge people, but I'm touching myself right now. That car does nothing but bad things, man.

    The color alone is perfect.

I bet the idle is lumpier than a back road in the spring.

That doesn't work down here because our roads don't freeze, so we'd have to go with something like "unstirred pancake batter" or some such.

For Texas? Lumpier than a welfare queen's thighs.

Or we can go with a plate of grits, if you'd rather. :notsure:

...^^^... I googled ... "1960s Hemi 90 days 1 replacement" ... and a Hemmings article came up with an OEM Warranty of 4,000 miles or 90 Days on the big dog 425 hp. I kinda remember that too.

I had a 389-335 GTO back then and I was the slow poke of the group ... remember a 426-425 a guy blew up and he got 1 free engine and that was it.

Not sure if the 426-390 hp had that warranty. I think another guy had a 390 hp version of that engine ?

There were some crazy versions of a lot of engines back then and you have to go to Hemming now to see them.

2nd Article down ... Sorry it's so big ... don't know how to make it smaller

This was the fastest car in high school. So many of my friends had them. You could off-road it, jump it, skid it around any corner, and out run anything. All because nothing you could do could make this worse so, fuck it, floor it.
