Thats awesome! My grandfather in PA had one nearly the same year and color. I think his was a 1964 Rambler American.
Straight 6 cyl automatic. I remember riding in it and how the speedometer only had 1 digit for each 10 mph.
And it did not have those big ass honking lights on the bumper. But if your car is slow you can blind people from behind
and they will just pull over and let you pass. Gives you instant right of way. haha

These are so damn hard to find now. Used to be every now and then one would show up for sale. Not now!
Maybe at Barrett Jackson with six figures attached...

I did most of the first major refresh, minus paint, myself starting 22 years ago, and it's been constantly upgraded since. It was a basket case found in a barn, so it was a long process just to make it a driver. We were going to sell it when it started needing attention again, but it turns out that we had developed a sentimental attachment to the car. My wife started crying when I was getting ready to drive to the Pontiac Nationals to sell it, so that was that - decision made. It no longer makes financial sense to pay a shop to do a restoration, as it will always cost much more than the car will end up being worth, but we have lots of memories tied up in that thing. I simply do not have the time to dedicate to a major overhaul anymore, and I don't have the metalworking skills that it needed either. It's also hard to re-chrome bumpers at home. This is a 52 year old car, and it developed rust in both obvious and hidden areas. It ended up needing a new roof skin, trunk floor and drops, and many of the exterior panels replaced or repaired. It's a financial hit for anyone not making Bezos money, but we wanted it done right, and right now so we can enjoy it rather than having it sold as parts at an estate sale in 30 years. We're the same age as the car and this restoration should get us another 20-plus years. At that point I'll just give it to the Pontiac Museum.

Good response. So you do have a lasting relationship with the car. And it is a decision that needs to be made
as a family in your case. You won't find another one like it , so enjoy it while you can. What ever you do make sure
the work is done right. Make unannounced visits to the shop to see how things are going or not going.
Paint is not everybody's cup of tea. I have been painting for years and mainly worked on Motorcycles and painting them
over the last 20 years. Cars are just a scale larger. The Monte Carlo was black, then I sanded the whole car down for a re primer
and Satin black finish coat. Ran that for 2 years, Then went full on with a 3 stage Urethane Base coat Eastwoods Large flake silver
and a Urethane clear coat. Not easy to do in a driveway. but I did make a makeshift paint booth out of car covers.
It turned out good. Not a pro job but good enough for 2 car show trophy's in 3 years. 1 first place and a third place in the 80's division.

 Me too, those bias tires just didn't hook up too well on a 425 hp 427 66 Impala! :D --- :burnrubber: :burnrubber: :burnrubber: :burnrubber:, yup, all 4 gears!!!

I remember a guy in town with a 62 "09 09" Impala ragtop who would go to the local ESSO station and get almost bald Atlas bucron tires to run with, those tires were the next best thing to slicks back in the day.
When was the last time anyone heard mention of an "09 09"!!!
Then that guy stuffed the "09 09" into a 57 corvette and put a 425hp 409 into the 62 Impala, that corvette really ran back in the day.

The owner of the shop actually helped me find the car in the first place, and we pulled it out of the barn together - literally a barn find. I met him through his little brother, who worked for me at the time. His shop did not do body and paint work back then or I would have let him do this 20 years ago. Finding a good shop is hard. This one is priceless. His team is doing a show-quality finish in the factory color, but with a little candy in the clear coat. He's two hours away, but I've seen the paint at several stages and it's amazing. I know the paint will be right, along with everything else.

I too share the love for the ‘66-67 GM A bodies. Sad that this body style only ran two years. Didn’t care as much for the ‘68 and up hump backs.

Cough, cough , cough, Choke, Man with all the tire smoke in the last 2 responses I can't see the PC monitor anymore.
You guys need to pull over and pick up a new set of nearly bald tires and head over to a different thread until this smoke clears. Ahh chooo.

You will find these parts will serve you well. The extra Support around the axle housing makes for a stout package.
That 3rd member is really nice and already set up with a nice centered pattern between ring and pinion.

I almost went with the back brace set up on the housing , that 3rd member is my drag racing setup as it has the soft Pro gear . My street set up is basically the same with billet full spool , billet pinion support and billet yoke . But the gears are more suited for street use , that 3rd member is being delivered this coming Monday
