I almost died in one of those cars: Mom and I got t-boned while driving one; Medical Doctor hit us; I swallowed my tongue and wasn't breathing; Dr. pulled my tongue out of my throat...
The only good corvair is the ones that fly in the 1940's for war.

One of the beauty’s of being a car person. Seeing a certain car triggers memories of a different time. It’s like music, you always remember what you were doing or whatever related to a song.

I had a similar experience in a Corvair but thankfully was too young to have any memory of it. Supposedly while parked I was sitting on my mom's lap and someone plowed into us and I hit the dash, my mom said I had turned blue before they were able to get me breathing again.

    My Mustang.
Bought it new in '07, and started turning wrenches the night I brought it home.

It is a base 4.0 V6/Manual. Modern Driveline built the Tremec 5-speed, I built the rear end (Auburn carrier & 4.10s), and installed a 4th-gen Eaton M-90 blower kit under the hood.

The sounds this thing makes when 'on song' are addictive...

Out of curiosity, why the 6 instead of the 8?

Just to be different. That, and the $10,000 price difference at the time. I could have bought a GT, but refused to pay $10K for 2 cylinders...figured for that money, I could make something that would equal, or better a stock GT in every way, and it does (except for the sound coming out the tailpipes). I was under budget until I caved, and bought the wheels/tires. It puts virtually the same HP and a good bit more torque to the tires, as what the 4.6 GT made at the flywheel. I could make more, but that's all I ever wanted out of it...a fun and punchy feeling street car.

Convair wasn’t around in the 40s. It came into existence when Vultee and Consolidated merged and were then purchased by General Dynamics (I think).

My neighbor's older brother had a '68 RR, Black on Black, 4 speed; he used to drive to Seattle International Raceway on the weekends to race.
The exhaust pipes were pointed down under the car. Sounded mean as hell. Gobs of torque. Ashamed to say that I don't remember if it was a 440 or 383.

He was getting ready to prep for the weekend race and had to check the air pressure of his slicks.... and decided to "clean them off".
Giant smoke show and long burn out rubber for 1/2 block... Hooks set for a mopar forever in me...

Yes they did. Then they were known as Consolidated Vultee when they merged in 1943. Consolidated built two of the great planes of WW2..the B-24 and the PBY Catalina. Vultee was mostly known for building Naval trainers, although a number of warplanes intended for France were repurposed for the US.
