Divco! Pretty cool rigs. Icebox in the back -- some of the newer ones had compressors and refrigeration, the older ones used, you know, ice. They came with all sorts of different engines. I worked in the garage of a dairy for a few years and maintained a fleet that included a bunch of Divcos. I don't think any of them had the same engine. One was a flathead four with an updraft carburetor; pretty old beast. The milkman had a choice of driving positions, standing or sitting. Three different throttle controls, two floor pedals and one twist-style hand operated one. The seat swung out of the way for stand up driving. There were a few dozen rods, bars, levers, and what-all making it all happen, and a few dozen grease fittings to keep it all operating.

Goofy, wonderful things. I always wanted one.

EDIT: Here's one picture of the controls. You can't see the gas pedal on the floor next to the seat pedestal. The big knob on the right is the hand throttle. The big lever on the left is the driveshaft-mounted parking brake.

    Hmmm...

A good friend of mine has a 1970 AMX. He’s had it since new. Crazy story, we worked together back in 1982. I quit that Job [Yes I’m an old fart, 58 to be exact]. Anyways I quit that job and then several years later moved from Colorado to California. I returned back to Colorado 25 years later. I’m in my small town downtown area one day and hear the sound of a muscle car. I look towards the sound and 3 blocks away I get a glimpse of an orange AMX cruising along. What!? I’m laughing thinking, no way that’s Juan’s AMX. I’m on foot and I make my way the two blocks to where the bars are and I see this orange AMX parked outside of the place I was headed to. I stopped and looked and was dumbfounded seeing what I think is my old friends AMX some 30 plus years later. I walked into the bar and here I see my old friend. After a greet and meet we immediately went into car talk. I couldn’t believe he still had that car, and nothings been done to it since.

...^^^... Cool story and it's always nice to hear the history and experiences behind a vehicle ... especially from an insider.

    I always liked those Divco's , Ford Anglia's and Kaiser's.

I knew an old retired guy (on my newspaper delivery route) who would paint his gray Henry Kaiser every year with a paint brush under the dogwood tree in his front yard. :)
