I did a similar thing except on mountain bikes in a state forest. This was before cell phones and before the mountain bike boom hit. If I had broken a leg out there I probably would have been found dead weeks later. In retrospect.

First time I saw one of these I was around 8-10 years old. I was with my family in the Adirondacks camping and someone had a turquoise one in the campsite next to us. We were camping on a lake and I’ll never forget watching him drive in to the lake and motor around. My first pondering moment was the day before when I saw a weird vehicle parked with propellers sticking out the back. LOL

    They made them from 1960-1965.
This red one I saw a couple of summers ago motoring the streets locally. Many a thumbs ups signs they were getting.

Speaking of amphibious vehicles, growing up a neighbor had one of these. Had no problems going to Catalina in it. Not the best handling, and the ride would make most seasick, but for a kid it didn't get any better.

Picked up a customers car and this was in the garage. She said it’s her son in law’s car.

2CV! Extremely popular post-WWII car in France. 19HP I think, opposed twin. The entire roof is canvas and rolls back. About 7 gazillion inches of suspension travel.

Neighbor has a lavender colored one. He has quite a few early post WW II cars. His business is importing high dollar cars from Europe. So he seems to have ways of finding the obscure.

For those unaware the “500” badging was in relation to NASCAR at the time. The “500” model Chargers had an indented rear window and front grill for better aerodynamics. They named it the 500 because they had to sell 500 units to be considered stock for stock car racing. This was all part of the wing cars contribution to racing. One of the rarest Chargers is a 500 due to the low volume of production units sold.

I was watching a show about Studebakers last night when that scene flashed across the screen. Loved the shot so I rewound it and froze it. I will admit I’m not much of a plane buff so I have no argument back. ;)
