You do know that’s a 1973 GTO right? And then the white one is a 1974. All models from all manufacturers built in or shipped to the US were losing horsepower due to government smog restrictions after 1971. Pontiac was trying what they could to stay in there with large cubes but still were forced to low compression and smog equipment kept power down. Also crash safety government regulations were implemented. Which gave way to ugly large bumpers rather than the nice looking small tucked tight to the body chrome ones of years prior. In the GTO lineup the 1970 year was the last real performance year. All years after that just wore the GTO badging. When they brought the name back in 2004 so many purist GTO fans were so disappointed at the generic body they badged as a GTO.

Cool car in custom form, not so much the way it came originally.

Brutal crash, glad he came out ok.

I was standing on my four wheeler when he flew by. I've haven't moved that fast since. They did away with those guard rails now. Much safer.

That's a Canadian version of the original. Most of us couldn't afford the parts for that car if you could find them. Pretty rare now I imagine.

98% Chevelle. The differences are: grille, tail lights, a Pontiac dash/guage panel (IIRC), and small bits of trim/emblems.
Due to Canadian law at the time, a US manufacturer operating on Canadian soil had to manufacture a certain amount of vehicles specifically for Canadian consumption. Yes, Beaumonts (Chevelle), and Acadians (Chevy II/Nova) were sold by Pontiac dealers. The same was done by Ford with the Mercury trucks we had up here, as well as Chrysler, with the Fargo trucks sold by Plymouth dealers (again, IIRC).

It’s just so strange to me. I have close to zero knowledge on the Canadian cars.

I always thought the rebadged Holden fit the GTO legacy perfectly: a generic coupe (and in the '60s a Le Mans was a generic coupe) with more horsepower than was good for it.

    A great combo.

Fun fact - in 2006 the U2 squadrons replaced their Camaros and Mustang chase cars with GTOs because they could get to speed faster, were faster, more stable at speed, and they decelerated to match the U2 fluidly.

Something I got to see and participate in while deployed to Al Dhafra AB in 2008.
