I’m eating breakfast with some of the old country boys and we are talking about cars. We are talking about buying stuff on craigslist and this one guy said he had an unusual experience. Most of these old guys have lived in this area all of their lives and I’m one of the newbies here. Anyway this one guy went to buy a John Deere lawn tractor off of craigslist and he met the guy and the guy had a whole barn full of specialized John Deere restored tractors. On top of that he had some unusual cars in a very fancy barn and two of them were the original GT 40 and the new GT 40 and he had both of them sitting there. This was kind of hard to believe until the guy showed me pictures of him sitting in both of them. I’m gonna try to get some pics this next week at breakfast if I can get a pic of a pic on his cell phone.

 

My neighbor 2 houses away had a Delorean parked under his kitchen floor. Edit: OMG! I need a new Delorean

I'm really interested in the original GT40 -- my first thought is that it's a clone, but if the guy has one of the new ones... hmmm....

...^^^... I saw some of the guys at breakfast today and asked for some pics and the one guy sent these to me ... however they did not want their faces in the pics.

Basically, a lot of these guys trade farm tractors and cars and etc ... and they are about 65 y/o and up.

Here are the 2 pics that I got today.

Oh, some of these guys wanted to be "Professional Fishermen" in their real lives and have set some fishing records in this area (several years ago).
I posted some of their fishing pics from the AJC Newspaper maybe a week ago in the TW fishing section ---> "Show Off Your Fish"

When I lived in North ATL area, this other guy owned several older GT-40's and would take them out early on sunny Sunday Mornings for a spin.

Oh, I have a pic (if I can find it) of me helping a local car collector change a flat tire on a super busy road on one of the very first Rolls Royce's ever made. I parked my Tacoma behind his RR vehicle so we would not get run over while changing the tire. I will look for those pics.

Some of these guys take their collectible cars out on nice weather Sunday mornings in the North ATL burbs.

Now out of ATL and maybe 40 miles north of the city -----> Below are the pics my buddy took when he went to buy that JDLawn Tractor from the guy on Craig's List ... they realized that they knew each other and the guy showed him his secret stash of GT-40's.

 

Ah, okay, that is a 2018-ish Ford GT and a 2005-ish GT40. Nice cars, me want! And the person who owns them is someone special, because Ford didn't sell those to just anybody.

The original Ford GT was from the 1960's. It won LeMans a few times back then.

 

...^^^... OK ... You are smarter than me on GT-40's ... I just knew 1 of his GT-40's was an older designed model and 1 was the new designer model.

The 2 - GT-40's in North ATL Burbs were painted in the classic white and and blue ... and the Gulf Oil colors of that light blue and orange (my favorite). The guy that owned those 2 was a "ZillionAire" and they might have been the real old ones.

Those older GT-40's and Shelby Cobras (289 & 427) and Resto-Mod 911's are my favorites .... and Sunbeam Tigers too.

 

The Gulf colors were John Wyer’s team. He kept racing the GT40s at LeMans after Ford declared victory and walked away. Won twice more. Then he switched to Porsches. Watch Steve McQueens movie to see those colors on the legendary 917.

I got to work as a grid steward (basically checking paperwork, Nomex gear & harness's on drivers) at the Indy Road Track Course in Speedway, IN starting in about 1977 (with waivers signed) ... And sometimes even lining up the cars on the false grid track section and talking to the drivers.

Long story how I got that week long fun job ... but I had access to everything, including going to the end of the track (on the grass in the curves) with my camera. Not as many safety regulations back then either.

Anyway, over time, I got my pic taken in some of the coolest cars in my life and I think one was a Doran Porsche and one was a 917 in one of these races or shows.

Of all the things or items that I have lost in my moves/relocations, those pics were the most cherished and were lost a year later and never found and my memory has also faded some.

Also got to go to a cool outside garden party on a big farm (close to the race track) where a lot of the Indy 500 drivers partied.

We used to go as a group (of 15-20) from ATL to the Indy 500 every year and stay with friends in Crawfordsville, IN in about 4 or 5 houses. It was our big party of the year. One of the guys in the group had a well connected brother in Indianapolis who knew the Hulman Family and we could always get good tickets to about any event at the track.

FWIW ... I don't do drugs but every year this lady would cook these "special brownies" which always seemed to make everybody super happy at the party the night before the big race. lol
