    And cars, I guess..

The modern equivalent would be a bunch of plastic bullshit and dash applique.

My dad used to have a 69-70 GTO! He used to say that car can pass anything on the road but the gas station!

Cool find ... that W-30 option on the 442 had some different things associated with it.

I didn't google this ... but I think Olds had a water ingestion problem with those low air induction intakes.

That ad talks how fast they were ... IIRC, the big dog back then was the 454ci/450hp Chevelle (without COPO orders) :burnrubber:

That would be 1970, and yes the 454/450 was big dog for bowtie for 70, but in the right hands a W30 or Stage 1 Buick would smoke an LS6 or Hemi. Lot's of contenders back then, no clear winner.

I think you are thinking the Turbocharged Olds F-85 Jetfire aluminum block 215 CI V8 that did use water injection in 1962-63. For a few decades later Land Rover used that aluminum block.

I think the fastest from that era was the '69 Road Runner with the 440 six pack with a 4spd & 4:10's; it'd do the 1/4 in under 13 seconds out of the factory. I don't think the Chevelle's ever broke 13 (in stock form)

This is very true. Everything was within a few 10ths of each other, so a good start and a good driver was definitely the key determining factor

Not to mention being/having a good mechanic, lol. Between points-style ignitions, mechanical distributors, solid lifters, adjustable timing, and multiple carburetors with multiple barrels, you really had to stay on top of maintenance to keep everything running at peak performance.

FYI ... When I was typing "ingestion" ... it kept trying to auto-correct to "injection" ... lol
