Looking for a new car seat for my son. He’s about to outgrow his infant seat. When the car seat is in, the front passenger seat is basically at the windshield making it unusable. Does anyone have a recommendation of a car seat that doesn’t take up as much space? He’s currently in a Chico key fit 30.

Few have defended Tacoma as a "family limousine". F-150, RAV4 more like it ... but even the DC is out-grown rapidly when child-seats of any "stage" are in play.

Or so I gather from reading.

Not sure what kiddo weight/age you are hauling but I'm reasonably happy with my Graco Extend-to-fit 3-in-1 car seat. Got it after they outgrew their infant seat. Sits behind passenger seat now and everyone is comfy on short trips. Longer trips might have to compromise and share some of the cramping. Haven't tried it in the center of the bench yet because I need access under and behind the seats routinely, but could move that stuff to a toolbox under the bed cover I guess

Also have the Graco Extend2Fit. Works perfect in the middle seat, both my wife and I are taller so it’s cramped rear facing behind either front seat. In the middle it hangs between the two front seats, and leaves enough room for passengers in the back to use both remaining rear seats

How’d you attach it to the middle seat? There’s no anchors on mine

Left most anchor of the passenger and rightmost of the driver. You could also use the belt if you wanted

I used the diano radian 3R. Rear facing and forward facing behind the driver. It was tight I had to move my seat forward a few inches and the driver and car seat touched but it worked. I think I had to flip the case around so there was more wedge for rear. I also had one behind the passenger seat but only forward facing.

This is literally the main reason why the Tacoma does not get driven very much as it is just too cramped when car seats are involved. That being said, I have a Graco Tranzitions 3-in-1 in the Tacoma on those very rare occasions where I need to take my son to school.

I have 3 car seats in mine. Two are currently boosters, but that’s a recent thing. I don’t know the brands, but I can look in the am if you want. All are forward facing at this point. I have a 6, 4 and 1 yo. Just drove 24 hrs from Olympic NP to Denver and all did fine/were comfortable.

Am I the only one that noticed the placement of the car seat in the front seat….. please don’t do this.

I did, but I'm sure most of us reading that assume a coma after "is in".

"When the car seat is in*,* the front passenger seat is basically at the windshield

yeah, I assumed so too, just had to say it though. My wife is 5ft 2in so it’s ok for us. Anyone else that tries to get in has to move the seat way back first.

I have a front facing seat for my 5yr old son. Its best if you like a more upright driving position....as well as not being over 6ft tall. It is cramp'd, but our kids still perfer to ride in the Tacoma, than the Accord so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Accord is boring, low viewing position. Tacoma is "on top of the world"! :D

We have a Chico key fit in the center for my youngest. it's big for sure. we ended up buying Graco seats with a back that is removable so they can grow into just a booster. I think it's the highback turbobooster. has been great for us.

    This and that
I think I used a graco while rear facing. Second for the diono.
