    Hello,

I was wondering if someone can help me
    Out with this little issue.
I have a 2019 Tacoma sport with only 23k miles. I am the first owner.
I have a push start button.
Truck starts right away but then get a warning that the KEY NOT DETECTED which is weird because the key fob is in the cup holder. I replaced the battery with energizer and it still does the same thing. I called Toyota and the service guy told me to try buying the OEM battery which is only $5 dollars which I’ll try first and if that doesn’t fix the problem then he mention it could be ECG and they might need to reset the key fob
I don’t think an OEM battery and an Energizer have nothing to do with this.
Has anyone had this problem before?
Keep in mind that I can still turn on the truck and drive it.
It doesn’t happen all the time but does it happen here and there.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated

Fresh battery is always the first thing to do.

We see this typically with weak batteries and the antennas not catching it.

I’m still scratching my head but OEM fob key battery I don’t think that would be it.
I will also search YouTube to see what it will be

Brand of battery shouldn't matter AFAIK, but the voltage does. Did you check that to be sure it was actually fresh?

Are you certain that you used the correct battery?
2016, 2025 and 2032 are all the same diameter, but different thickness.
If 2032 is the proper size, using a thinner one may result in poor contact with the terminals.

Yes, I used the same battery number 2032 which is the number that came with the fob when I bought it

Check the actual Key in the fob. Remove and reinsert it a couple of times.

Put the fob near the push button - it has an inductive charge to activate fobs with bad batteries. If it works you know for sure it’s the batteries in the fob. By the way, did you put the new battery in the fob in the right direction? Positive side (flat side) goes up.

    It’s a RAV4 but the same with a Taco:

Try reprogramming the key to the truck. Mine came with 2 fobs, which will both start the truck but only the one actually programmed will let me drive without the “key not detected” message.

That's odd. Both of my keys work. I would swap fob batteries again and re-sync the fobs to the truck again.

How do you re-sync the fobs?

Before you start throwing money at it and reprogramming FOBs, first do what Bishop already recommended. It's not uncommon for a newly purchased battery to be bad.
