Car Trip Information useless..

I spend a lot of time around dashboards and data and I can't think, for the life of me, how much of this screen is useful..or even what it is?

Is it a histogram of MPG?

Why wouldn't it have a bar chart of current trip MPG compared to average? Maybe vital gauges such as engine temp, transmission temp etc and supplement to the dash would be better. I am not sure what this even is...

Unless I am missing something which is entirely possible.. but this seems useless.

 

Mpg over time. On long trips you can see the effects of wind conditions or incline/decline. Also to check to see if something is amiss like a sudden drop. But, yeah mostly useless.

 

Thank you, the explanation makes sense but the practically of it doesn't for the vast majority of driving use cases. Unless Toyota expects me to remember when I went up a hill or passed a semi on some of those dups. Much rather have mpg current, last 25, 50, 100 miles and total trip MPG. As well as gauges for temp, oil pressure, transmission, elc.

 

Those are behind the steering wheel, the instrument panel. Not clear if you own one or just scouting information about the truck.

 

I do own one, but it would be nice to have at glance as supplemental data or certainly better than useless mpgs per minute. But thanks

 

Agree. It feels like Toyota handed the task of coming up with something useful for the nav screen to an intern.

They did not understand the assignment.

 

The most basic fuel economy function, miles to empty, is completely off.

Math is not mathing on mine.

 

Bingo. I have run 2 tanks of fuel thru my 2025 SR and the miles to empty, according to the actual gallons I used to fill up, was 95 miles off. My math says I can do almost 400 miles to bone dry empty,,,

 

Mine is off by similar amounts each time I fill up. Hoping this gets addressed by a software update!

I put 371 miles on the dealers first full tank of gas. 25.1 mpg but I was babying it,,

 

My tacoma only shows total MPG that you have to reset. Our 24 Land Cruiser shows total mpg and below that it shows current trip mpg. It resets every time you start vehicle. I cant find that option on my tacoma. Seems like they share the same screen, don't know why it's not there. This is the screen behind steering wheel.

 

I get 25.2 mpg but never baby it just drive normally

 

The one that resets every time you start up is there. But I'm not in my truck right now and I don't remember how to display it. I have it as one of my 3 display options.

 

What would really be useful is if they added 2 more tabs to that screen for Trip A and Trip B. Being able to view those metrics with MPG and the ability to reset them using the multimedia screen would be useful and less complicated than going through the cluster.

 

I don't think toyota wants us to monitor the efficiency too closely..lol

 

Filled up today. Math:

Full 18.2 gallon tank at 18.6 mpg SHOULD get me 338.5 miles.

But the dash tells lies.

 

It steals 2 gallons.

 

Even that math still doesn’t add up.

 

That’s why I use the fuelly app.
