I have thought about it recently - was actually just talking to my wife and dad about it :). Really, the way I'm "thinking" about it is that when the 80d dies, I'll move to full frame. It probably/hopefully won't be too soon that that happens, but I drop it enough as I'm jumping around on rocks, etc. that I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

......This would be a good place to mention that just before we climbed up onto the plateau that lends the "Uplands" moniker to the Owyhee Uplands Byway, we'd all been ready for lunch. It was a little after noon for us from the RealTime Zone™, and after 1:00pm for those from Mountain Time. There was just one small problem - snow. They were just flurries, but none of us really wanted to eat in those conditions, so we pushed on, hoping to drive through the flurries to something much more pleasant....

Interesting that I was chastised for calling the use of an RTT as glamping yet the title of this thread involving a lot of RTT's calls it glamping. Touchy lot on the other thread I guess.

...Nevada's BDR is known to be a bit different than some of the others. Most interesting is the temperature differential between the northern and southern ends of the route - even as the north is still covered in snow, temps in the south reach over 100°F. For that reason, a lot of travelers split the trip into two - doing the southern route in winter or early spring and the northern bit come summer.

But not us; we're not that smart. Well no, that's not it exactly - it's just that the time we had to do the trip happened to mean we'd be doing it all in one shot. And we'd be doing it from north-to-south, just because we thought that'd be logistically easier.

At least, that was the plan....

Nice set up. Nothing better than a shower while camping. What do you stand on when you/she showers? I use the top of my yellow/black totes from costco. I know those rubbermaid totes are pricey but I bet you could use the lids as a shower pan.

Sure is, not gonna lie... and we bought thick rubber door mat at target for $10 and we keep it semi folded/rolled and sandwiches between drop table and bumper.... it stays out of the way and is super handy.... we learned the hard way LOL

Nice setup. Looks like you're in the Sierras/Tahoe here, whereabouts? from a fellow bay area-er.

It should go without saying that places like that, that aren't blown out already, are at their greatest premium right now. If he did choose to share publicly in a venue such as this, then it is just going to add to the likelihood that spot will be occupied when you get there. If you don't like going out and trying to find places like this on your own it may be better to PM people to ask where their spots are.

    Just my opinion of course.

I usually wear flip-flops and stand on a rock. Simple, and no wet thing to roll up and pack away.

Yeah, we wear water shoes, now.... much more enjoyable to swim remote (rocky) lakes and streams... The mat is still a welcomed addition, its also nice when dealing with trail fixes....

...Anyone who's camped with me knows that I'm always a fan of finding a ridge along which to camp, and my hope was this part of the route - which crossed a ridgeline - would be a great place for us to stop for the night. Clearly - and perhaps obviously - previous adventurers shared my preference and as we reached the ridgeline, a lightly-travelled trail dove off the main road to the south - into BLM land!...
