I try not to use automatic car washes but my truck was filthy from the melting snow and I didn't have time to hand wash it at home. The air dryer at the car wash blew off the drivers side plastic detail strip that goes over the top of the cab. I saw it come off so I retrieved it and took it home. I re-installed it, appears to just clip on at each end of the strip but it is somewhat loose at the rear. It looks like it may have been factory installed with some adhesive at this location. I don't want this to come back off while driving, won't be going back to that car wash again.

Does anybody know if any adhesive is used to secure the strip and if so what type should I use. Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same thing happen. I just used 3m double sided foam tape and it was holding up pretty good at that time. Now have factor roof rack installed so no more worries

Like he said, it's double sided foam tape. Just make sure the clip up front isn't broken, that is the main thing that holds the strip on.

I've seen several threads about them blowing off just driving down the highway so it's not unusual for them to come off.

Not unusual at all. Both of mine have blown off at one point or another (typically after the touch less car washes I use after snow storms to get the salt off the bottom). Like others said, use the double sided foam tape and you'll be good. I am in the habit of checking mine every time I wash the truck so it doesn't happen again.

I work as a body tech and do this on a daily basis. Go to harbor freight, get some razor blades and 3m tape; along with plastic molding tools. Scrape off the adhesive on the top of the cab where the molding use to be with the plastic tools, then on the molding use the razors to carefully remove what's left of the adhesive. Once that's finished run the 3m tape along the whole underside molding, carefully get it centered and aligned before applying it to the cab. Best way to apply the new molding is remove a few inches of the backing at the front and as you apply the molding to the cab slowly keep peeling off more of the protective tapes covering ahead of where you're applying pressure on the molding.

Thanks for all of the advice. I will get some 3M tape to secure that part to my truck. I drove it on the freeway this morning, didn't come loose but I would hate to lose it on the road.

    Thanks again.
