I filled my tank this afternoon and then went to get a car wash around the corner. After I left the wash I parked to dry my new 2019 TRD Pro with 700 miles on it I noticed that my gas door was open and my gas cap was left off. I am incredibly dumb and feel sick to my stomach. I drove home and everything seemed ok right now. Will this cause issues if a small amount of water got into the system?

Can't say I've ever done this exact thing but have bought gas that had water in it. The engine acted up until I filled up again ( was on a road trip). After that no problems. Owned the car another 60k miles until the transmission gave out.

Maybe go ahead and to the tank off when you are down to 3/4 a tank or so to go ahead and dilute any potential moisture?

There are fuel additives that you can get that will mix with the water and help it pass through. Used It on boats multiple times.

Dumb mistake but the amount of water that may have got in is probably minimal, don't sweat it.

I would just pour a bottle of regular HEET in my tank. You can pick a bottle up at Walmart.

I’m fairly certain there’s a one way valve near the top of the filler neck that would have prevented any water from getting in. It’s so you can’t drop shit into your fuel tank. The gas pump pushes into the neck and opens this valve so you can fuel up. Would be easy to check by attempting to route a soft rubber hose into your tank. You shouldn’t be able to.

Most gasoline is 10% ethanol, So why waste money on HEET, which is also ethanol.

Most of us buy gasohol, which is around 10% alcohol. Alcohol mixes with water and will do the same thing the heet, or any other additive, does, which is mix with the water. You might have some missing or stumbling, which will throw a code, until all the water is passed through the system.

Edit: Clipper 16 beat me to it

Since water has a higher density than gasoline, you would have noticed any issues early. I wouldn't sweat it

^^^^^ let the truck sit for a couple hours and any water will settle to the bottom , then if it runs alright you are okay .

Wouldn't think much water got in but very lucky the fuel door wasn't ripped off the truck.

That would give me a heart attack, hopefully it will be all good tho. Like others said there is a small door inside the filler hole, so should be fine man. Good luck!

Absolutely put HEET or something of the kind in... and drive the heck out of your truck and top off whenever you can. You'll be okay but do not let that moisture stay in your tank for long. There's probably not enough in there, but if it's E10, the ethanol can saturate and result in goop.

Get yourself a Meso Custom Gashole so losing your cap doesn’t happen again.

Holds your gas cap on the filler door, so you don’t leave it on top of the gas pump and drive away. Look at the second pic I posted before.
