    Hi guy!

I recently bought a new alternator from Napa and was running it for around a month. I was driving like normal and then I parked and shut off the truck, but noticed a bunch of smoke coming out of the engine bay. When I opened the bay I saw a little fire coming from the alternator, but it put out itself. The fire didn’t spread (fortunately) but now the truck isn’t receiving “any” power & wont crank. The battery reads at 12.6v.

The low/high beams work when switched and the key ignition chime works when the door is open, but that’s the only things I’ve noticed receiving any power.

Does that rear plug come out of the alternator or is it stuck?

There’s some slack, but unplugging it at the position it’s in is a bit difficult in general. I’m not sure if this’ll be of any help but the alternator read at 12.6v when I checked it just now. The fire didn’t seem to reach the plug, but there’s also the factor of residual heat.

What does the ALT fuse look like? Kinda sounds like the alternator shorted out

I checked the 7.5 and it seemed fine, as for the 80 I wasn’t able to take it out since I don’t know how to lol. I can take a look at it.

Update: replaced the 80a fuse and the alternator was still smoking. Just took out the alternator and opened the back to take a look; she is FRIED.

(plug wires were fine; most of the housing was fine but a little warped on the outside. used to much strength taking it out too lol)8946B45D-6B41-49D7-B3D7-4AC6D4B0418C.jpg

Fortunately I replaced the alternator less than a month ago, and I also have a warranty. Luckily my number was in their system when I bought it, & because of that I can switch this toaster for hopefully a better alternator lol

Lets really hope the ECM was not also cooked in this mishap.

    Good luck!
