I may be beating a dead horse here, but the dealership tells me I have some carbon build up. Of course they want to take care of it for me at a tune of Bout $150. How will they actually take care of it? Can't I sea foam it and accomplish the same thing? I have a s/c by the way, will sea foam hurt the s/c?

I know superchargers can expedite carbon build up in combustion chambers so not that far fetched. Sea foam shouldn't hurt the s/c just change the oil afterwards. Also I'm not sure about the tacos but I know on my ranger it had a habit of fouling plugs after sea foam. Hopefully someone more knowledgeable on these specifically with chime in.

Edit* Just saw you had a '14, I wouldn't worry about it unless you've driven 50,000 miles a year.

Did they use a borescope on your motor in searching for a cause of a detonation problem? No? Then they don't know squat, and are trying to sell you a $10 can of stuff for $150.

    Prevent carbonization.

Periodic Italian tuneups. They actually work. Pampered motors are more likely to carbon.

A bottle of Techron through the tank, run down pretty low, just before each oil change (just as a method to remember when) will be a great preventative, as part of the Italian tuneup.

I do this religiously. Hope we are doing as much good as we think we are.

I've de-carboned a couple of high revving little sports car motors that had been grannied around.

Then prevented re-carbonization by using this method. I have at least that level of experiential evidence.

I'll have to find the rev limiter on the Tacoma soon......... :D

Being the drag racer you are, you already know banging the limiter a time or two won't hurt nuttin. Wind 'er up.

Yea I know on the strip. I'm talking about around town, just to clear the cob-webs.

I had lots of folks argue that a manual was always quicker than an auto. Took a lot of $ from them too. It takes a special 'gift' to be able to shoe a manual down the strip well. I've had a couple buds who could do it, watching you'd swear it was auto they shifted so quick, not even nose bobble. But they are few and far between.

However, on an autox or road course, I still love rowing.

Yeah, I'm sure they're just trying to sell me something I don't need. It's not running bad and I'm pretty regular when it comes to "cleaning it out" myself! Truck has 48k on it and I usually run a can of sea foam in the gas about every 10k.

Running it through the fuel lines is a little different than dumping it straight into the intake is it not? Figured 12 oz of pure petro diluted with 20 gallons of gas wouldn't be as much of a shock to the motor.

Not sure what this rev limiter is - I never hit a rev that died - I have a '08 - red lined about 5 grand. Is it safe to decarbonize hitting this ?

10-4. I guess my biggest question about this whole deal is: what will the dealer do to clear the carbon?

If you are doing this there is nothing that the dealer is going to do to change it. In other words they are full of it. That will keep it as clean as anything else.
