I am looking at a 2018 used CPO vehicle from the dealership, 2.5k miles on it. They told me it was used by the GM only, never licensed. I will be the first owner.

The carfax however states 1 owner. I have not inquired about the carfax to the dealership yet, not sure how it exactly works. I’m not familiar with carfax.

    Does this sound legitimate/accurate?

For pricing, it will be important that I’m the original buyer from the dealership.

Used-Certified Pre Owned implies previous owner, doesn’t really matter who it is.
My thought it was a trade in

My thoughts is it was a demo used by the sales/finance manager. It’s considered used and having a previous owner.

No way they can sell that as a new truck if there was a previous owner. I'd walk away if they try to convince you otherwise.

Carfax is useless in determining if a car has ever been involved in an accident. Not all insurance companies report to them.

The only good thing is if the accidents are reported and it shows up. A no accident carfax does not mean anything. I found that out with a 05 vette clean carfax and when I went to state farm to insure it they let me know it had been in 3 accidents 5K,8k and 19K damage.

CPO = Certified Pre-Owned. ie Used. You won’t be the “oringinal owner.”

Just get new. What are they offering? Maybe $200 off new price? You don’t even get the financing incentive, which negates the “savings”. Pass.

CPO also means that Toyota goes through a checklist of inspection items and gives an extended warranty. I have bought two CPO Toyotas in the past and the warranties have paid for themselves. YRMV

Definitely dealer demo. After a certain amount of miles, they can discount it. Usually they're able to sell it new, depending on the mileage, so CPO sounds kind of questionable. With that little mileage, I'd agree you should go new.

    Good points.

I was not crystal clear in my original post ...

It is being sold as used, but as a dealer demo. I am fine with that in this circumstance only because:
    1) I am getting 10% knocked off and this particular vehicle usually always sells for sticker
    2) I am not familiar with the licensing protocol in Az. Do 6 month dealer demos get tags?
    3) I NEVER have purchased a used car from a dealer and never will, except in this case only. If and what they’re telling me is accurate, I will be the original title owner which is what my goal is for this vehicle at this price.
    4) I’m ok with it being a dealer demo, just not titled at the current price.

Another point is, if it is titled previously and I will be the second owner, I will negotiate and have more leverage with additional discounting.

For clarification this is a 2018 Porsche 911 Carrera. I looked at all the Tacoma World Forums and could not figure out which one to post in. I have a 2018 Tacoma I Purchased three months ago and have been on Tacoma world for over 10 years. I value everybody’s opinion and expertise on this website.

Depends on the stealership. Some may have the vehicle titled in that stealerships name therefore it may show as sold since they technically purchased it and the title changed names. OR they're feeding you a line of bullshit.. :duel:
Call them out on the Carfax report if you catch them in a lie that's bargaining power!

1)If a normal civilian/driver had traded-in this vehicle so soon I'd be wondering WTF is wrong with it and 2)any GM is responsible for whichever car he/she is using so my guess is he/she was probably a more careful driver and treated the vehicle with kid gloves.
As long as every detail of the warranty and the Certification inspection is documented I'd go for it.

Typically demos are never titled, they just get a dealer tag slapped on them, and get driven. When they come out of demo status, they should get inspected. 10% on that car sounds good. There is definitely a distinction between used and demo. They should be able to print the carfax and their shop RO for any inspection and/or service that has been done. Obviously we'll need pics.

This is easy to resolve tell the dealer you want to see the MCO for the vehicle in question...if they can not produce the manufacturers certificate of origin that means the vehicle was titled.

I purchased a brand new 2005 Tacoma with 1 mile on it. Several years in I had a buddy who had multiple car fax reports as he was looking for a used vehicle. Once he found it he had no use for the ones left. He let me use his account and I ran my Tacoma for kicks. My surprise it showed 2 owners. But that was impossible because I purchased it brand new. Since then I will never trust carfax

I'd be worried that the deprecation for a 2500 mile 911 is more than 10%. Luxury/exotics deprecate like crazy when you drive them off the lot. What are similar 911's going for?
