Some Jackhole backed into me while it was parked in the parking lot, so now I have a small scuff and two small scratches on the back rear bumper of our new car. I would post a picture but it is literally impossible to see. I plan on taking it two a couple of detailing restoration places next week. If they can't repair it somehow I may have to go thru our Insurance. I really don't want it showing up as a Carfax event because of the perceived negativity of the incident, and because it is so minor.

My question is does the Insurance Company or the body shop submit an "event" to the Carfax database? Can I ask "whoever" not to report the event because it is so insignificant?

From my understanding its the Insurance company that reports it and there are quite a few that dont.

I purchased a 2005 corvette with a clean car fax. When I went to my state farm agent to insure it he let me know that in the past state farm had 3 claims on it one for almost 28K damage but state farm does not report to car fax.

If it’s nearly impossible to see, they should be able to fix it for less than the cost of your deductible.

I’m curious about this too. My wife’s 2017 RAV4 got hit at the Walmart parking lot. I ended up paying the $2200 out-of-pocket. To fix at the body shop. Since it was on private property, the cops were not involved. I don’t think it would be on our carfax

When did this happen? If it’s already fixed and you paid, it would already be on carfax if it’s ever gonna be there.

I hit a deer in my 2015 the first year I had it, about 3K in damage. No police report, Insurance paid for the repair. Carfax report is clean and clear. Carfax is a joke.

My wife has the same color. But... How cool would it be if it came in the color that you see in the interior where the spare is!

This is an old wives tale, and if you need a Police report from an accident on private property, they are required to write one up. Had an incident where a guy backed into my vehicle in a gas station. Cops responded and tried that line... "Hey, it's private property, we don't write this up."

I asked the cop "Hey, if I shot someone on private property, would you write up a report?"

He gave me that quizzical look, you know the one... like a dog turning his head sideways to hear better.

Then I asked "What if a burglar broke into my "private" house and stole everything. Would you write up a report?"

****He immediately began writing up the report.****

If the cops come it will be on the Carfax. On minor stuff you are much better off taking care of it yourself. Another big problem is when the oil change guy enters the wrong miles, making a discrepancy to the official record. This makes the car TMU (true miles unknown). Probably not a problem on a 1st gen with 300k but huge when trading in a 3rd gen with 300k instead of 30k.

This happened to me. I had a 2006 silverado SS with about 40K miles. Carfax showed someone at the dealer service entered a wrong mileage. I didnt know till I tried to trade it in and was offered $11K. Should've been easily double that even for a dealership at that time. I was starting the paperwork process to amend the issue, but a guy ended up buying it who didnt care about that. I've hated carfax ever since.

    Carfax is data.

You have little idea, outside of title changes, how accurate it is.

I mentioned this before but my sister had a civic we got brand new and she was in 2 major accidents (super surprised they didnt total since once the entire front end was caved in) anyway when we sold it I ran a carfax and it said neither accident ever showed up.

We did take it to a korean bodyshop not sure if that made a difference lol
