Cargo Basket on top of Bed Crossbars?

Discussion in '3rd Gen. Tacomas (2016-2023)' started by Namrog456, Jun 1, 2018.

Best Above-Bed Storage Solution?

  1. Bed Crossbars Only - why need more?

  2. Crossbars + Cargo Basket - it's unique and flexible!

  3. Bed rack - just commit!

I don't know who to tag but here's the Yakima basket on the bars close-up. stock mounting option just stretched over the bar. they loosen up over time but I check them once a month and before I do any trips.

Edit: Ok I just read thru the thread. (shoulda done that first). I've been using this setup for about a year and a half now and I love it.
Pros: versatile, bunch of extra storage, my bed rug and everything in my bed stays dry
Cons: no rear visibility, like at all. I don't mind I use my sides more often. I have to take the whole setup off (only a 10-15 min process but still) to load my atv.
I have the bars for my eventually rtt, I'm using the basket for now because I love the way it looks.

Edit#2: Megawarriors are huge! they're almost the full size of our shortbeds. I like the loadwarrior for versatility. Now I use the loadwarrior off-center and a plano case next to it for recovery gear

Thanks for the post! I may have to copy your setup. The pup takes up the back seat, so the basket will be a huge plus.

Would you do anything differently if you were starting from scratch?

I need to find a way to better secure the basket, when I'm not carrying anything on it it's bouncy as hell. Oh and I realized that I use the Yakima wind fairing (pointed backwards, hilariously), if i take that off I actually can see fairly well out the back window.
The only time I'll ever consider changing up my set-up is when i eventually get a RTT, then I'll interchange the set-ups according to situations.
