As others have stated, get Sumo springs or airbags and you can carefully haul close to a ton. Yes you will be overloaded. I built a house and moved 95 yards of aggregate in the truck. The heaviest load was about 3/4 of a yard of roadbase, just shy of 2200lbs according to the scale at the pit. The truck was sluggish, but i was only going a few miles of backroads. Drive accordingly.

The limitation is between Toyota GVW official and your imagination. Sure, lots of components out there to stiffen things up but Toyota is the only one brave enough to put numbers behind it. None of the aftermarket guys do. They can't afford it.

I put half pallet of landscape brick in the back of my 17 off road single cab. Forklift guy put it dead center over the back axle. Full pallet was 3400lbs so I'm calculating this at 1700. 2.8 miles from home depot to my place. Hilly with 1 speed bump. Truck handled everything fine besides 1 manhole cover I hit. That felt bad. I would do that run again but would feel better about it with additional suspension components added tothe rear.
