Howdy. A few weeks back I noticed the cargo lights embedded into the 3rd brake light housing were on after I last drove it a 2 days prior which ended up draining my battery. After hooking up a brand new TrueStart everything worked flawlessly until today… I last drove my truck last night (Thursday) and tonight (Friday) I went outside and noticed my cargo light is on AGAIN. I normally have the switch set to the middle DOOR position but no matter what position the switch is in, the lights won’t turn off even after pressing the lock button on the fob over and over again. Setting the switch to OFF won’t turn them off either. I haven’t done a single electrical modification and have owned this truck since new. 2021 Sport with 13k miles. Any input is greatly appreciated, thanks!

Update: they mysteriously turned off, something is still wrong with the circuit.

I think the switch controls a relay, check it

I can’t seem to get the relay out, I did notice the lights turned off and are now working normally after disconnecting and connecting the switch. I posted they somehow turned off last night and they were on again today without touching the truck.

Maybe some one is messing with you…. Story

we had a guy at work who was always working on this old beater. I mean bailing wire holding it together. So I asked why he just didn’t get something that was 10 yrs or new opposed to the pos. Well he said the engine runs great and the milage is incredible. Come to find out the older guys would dump in a gallon or two every other day. It was so funny.
FYI gas was $1.33 a gallon

Did you get the relay out? It sounds like a bad relay as mentioned.

I did dissect the switch and everything is normal inside, still works after I put it back together. Was surprised to find some KY lube in there.

The relay should come out fairly easy...sounds like it might be the culprit unless the problem completely goes away if you remove the switch...which is equally as weird.

Hooking and unhooking the switch fixes it temporarily, I did that Saturday afternoon and by Sunday morning the lights were on with the switch left on OFF.

Truck isn’t driven much as I have a company vehicle. Switch is currently disconnected to prevent this from happening. Sucks I’m out of warranty at only 12k miles. Oh well it is what it is.

Relays can get stuck in on or off position and can magically turn on. I am assuming when you remove the switch you have a break in current which releases the stuck relay. My thought is not the switch get yourself a new relay. JMHO

This was my first thought, but if the switch is off there shouldn't be any signal sent to the relay in the first place. Unplugging it and the lights turning off would lead to a faulty switch. I'm still curious why the relay doesn't come out.
