For those of you with scantools, which one is better? Feel free to mention other ones too. Thanks

I heard they work good, but was looking more to something that pairs to my phone rather than mounting a display.

Don’t know where you are in SoCal. I am in Irvine area. I have Carista you are welcome to check it out if your in the area. I have Carista and like it. It allows you to make changes that usually only a dealership can do. Chimes, signals, lights, etc. Carista also identifies and clears error codes. If your just looking to make one time system changes you are welcome to use mine. There is OBDFusion app that monitors more engine/performance. Both systems pair up to your truck via a Bluetooth/OBD.

Carista works great along with a phone app (Torque - Andriod; OBD Fusion - iPhone). Can configure your dashboards in Fusion really easily to show anything you want as well as do some basic logs if you are ever trying to diagnose something.

Carista, Torque app, pay extra for the vehicle specific plugins, and phone mount. Still cheaper than a scan guage and no fucking wire.

    + 100times the info.

Anyone with carista get the dash lights I've heard some people get if they leave it plugged in? Do you guys leave it plugged in all the time, or take it in and out?

Really depends on what you need to do. I have a Carista and a Autel MaxiSYS MS906. If Carista does everything you need, I would buy the Carista, the interface and software is easy to use. If Carista does not cover the vehicle you are working on or if you need more advanced features there's a lot of choices of scan tools. I work on european, asian and domestic cars and like to record live data so the Autel is needed but if the task is simple enough to just use the Carista, I use the Carista. I had a bunch of other scanners I collected over the years, i gave them away and have only kept these two.

Can anyone confirm that Carista will support advanced functions on the Gen 3 Taco? From their website it appears that it does not(?)

    https://caristaapp.com/vehicles/toyota/tacoma/3rd-gen/2017/usa

I would like to be able to set courtesy blinkers from 3 flashes to 5 and maybe disable some seat belt chimes.

    Thanks

The pro version does. If you buy the carista Bluetooth obd2, u get a free month of the pro version. You put in your credit card info, then need to cancel if you don't want to keep the subscription (1 year for $40).

Thanks for confirming. I was looking on the Carista website last night, and when I looked at the complete list of vehicles supported, the Tacoma was missing altogether, while other vehicles that didn't support customization were listed, but didn't indicate that customization was supported. Made me suspect it was an oversight on their database.

I'm a bit confused about Carista too. If I go their website and punch in my 2018 OR, it says that all I can do with the app is Basic OBDC Diagnostics and Basic Service. Advanced Diagnostics, Advanced Service, and Customization (which is what I really want) are red-x'd out for the Taco. Am I missing something? Is it just bad site design? Are the advanced features listed as unavailable because you have to pay for them? I'd be interested in getting this for my truck, but I don't want to buy it only to find out that I can't use all of it's features. The screenshot below specifically states that the advanced features aren't applicable to the 3rd Gen Taco.

I just received my carista yesterday, put in credit card info for the year of pro ($39.99), and since I bought the carista Bluetooth obd2 I get a free month. So if I cancel before that month is up, I don't get charged the $39.99.

I can't speak for the 2018, but on my 2017 I was able to use the advanced pro features. Just disabled seat belt chime and changed courtesy blinker to 7.

I just got a Carista, the courtesy blinker change seemed to take but muting the seatbelt dinger did not. When I start the truck with the seatbelt unbuckled, which I do by habit every single time, it still dings for about 20 seconds then stops. I'd like to get rid of the ding all together.

2018s work the same. I bought mine when I had a 2016 originally and that wasn't even listed in their database for customizations. When I got my 2018 didn't even think about it, plugged the sensor in changed the settings I wanted changed. Worked without any issue.

I think it's an oversight in their database / on their website. Notice that the Tacoma is missing from their list of all vehicles? Other vehicles which do not support customization still appear on the list, but customization is not listed among the supported features.
