Had it not been covered under warranty I would have put in an aftermarket unit. My wife wanted the same thing because she was used to it already. It all worked out. She is happy, Toyota is happy, so that makes me happy.

Read the story about the guy that bought a Land Rover from them and got the warranty. Short version, they lost money on that deal and he laughed at how much better his life was getting it fixed on their dime.

    My radio died.
Everything worked flawlessly except “no sound “ . No beeps , music, or even my phone conversation had to be switched to my cell phone speaker and not with the Bluetooth. I went to the dealer today and they ran all the updates. Still nothing turns out my radio control panel (the radio face) needs to be replaced. $1017.00 (just the face) not the whole unit.

    Crazy!
2017 and it’s not 2 1/2 yrs yet and the sound is dead!

    $1017.00 + tax!

Coming from someone that works for them, get the warranty. Trust me
I have a lot of stories/occasions that have convinced me that a warranty is a necessity with a CarMax vehicle
Also you can really milk that warranty. A buddy of mine paid a couple thousand for his on a Chevy 1500 with a $50 deposit whenever he comes in. He easily got over $6000 worth of engine work done on it

I can go on and on but it'd probably be better if you have any specific questions I can answer instead of me rambling

Sounds about right coming from a stealership.

They wouldn't sell warranties if they didn't come out ahead. Some warranties will pay for themselves, but on average they don't.

I'd rather fund an emergency/rainy day account than finance a warranty that on average won't pay for itself.

I won't argue that warranties do sometimes workout in the consumer's favor.

    YMMV

I've bought three cars from CarMax. A 2005 Honda Accord purchased in 2006 with 12,000 miles. Still in the family and still running perfectly.
A 2000 MB ML320, which we eventually traded in for a 2007 ML350 (wife's car). We purchased the Max Care warranty with the two MLs but not the Honda. The warranty work was done for free at CarMax, or we could take the MLs to the local MB dealer and pay a $50 deductible. Which was the route we always took.
In our case, and with the MBs, the warranties were a bargain and we got way, way, way more in return than what we paid. We still have the 2007 ML350, it has 70,000 miles on it and is in mint condition. We will, however, never own a MB again. Too many problems and too much money to repair.
The wife wants a new Toyota C-HR next month. We'll trade her ML350 on that and be happy we did, I'm sure. If I can hold her off, we'll wait another month for the 2020s to rollout.

    YMMV

I owned a car dealership for over 10 years and at the dealer auctions they would always outbid everyone. Most of the time the price they paid was more than I would have retailed the car for on my lot. They over pay at the auction to fill their lots so they also are asking too much for most of the cars on their lots. Be careful, check the market value (what other trucks in similar condition and miles are selling for) not the book value. Book value doesn't mean shit, the true value is market value.

Choosing between that and an 2019 for 32,000 with 7,500k miles on it with a small warranty?
