Sounds expensive to me as well. I have an absolutely loaded TRD sport with 1/3 the miles, and I'd sell you it for $32,000US! Oh, I'm in Canada though near the Alberta US border:)

I am the same way, I've purchased cars in Arizona, Nevada, California, Texas and Colorado. I am willing to travel for a good deal (also an excuse to take a small trip :)), others cannot or will not. I agree seeing other peoples deals is cool for a reference, but it really doesn't help him purchase a truck so it's kind of a waste of time. At the end of the day, if he likes the truck, and doesn't want the hassle of traveling (if it even breaks down to be worth the cost of travel) this truck can be a deal for him.

Side note - I almost purchased my 2017 TRD OR from a dealership in Phoenix. They had crazy low prices, I think the non JBL packages were something around 34K. The catch (and reason I did not purchase from them) was that you had to pay the Miracopa County tax fee, even if you do not live in that county. I've purchased vehicles in Phoenix before and did not have to pay this tax, but this dealership wouldn't budge. It wasn't a huge add on, it was for a principle thing for me (that was my traveling money to go get it). It may be something you want to look at, I believe it was Bell Road Toyota.

You can get a new truck for pennies more than that. Couple bucks more a month

Seems like they've backed off on the CPO warranty since the last one I looked at, only 12mo/12k miles and extend powertrain by 2 years / 50,000 miles. Doesn't seem to get you a lot on a 2016 model with 25k miles.

    Here's your 160 point inspection: http://www.cars.com/go/advice/shopping/cpo/images/toyota-inspection.pdf

Many/most of them are stuff you as a buyer would notice looking at or test driving the vehicle. "Tailgate operates properly" "Backup camera operates properly" "A/C operates properly" etc.

Rest of it would be covered during your mechanic's PPI -- something you should be getting regardless of where you buy it.

Carmax? Haven't bought from them so I don't know the details of their inspection, though they do provide a 3 day buyback period so it's simple to get your own inspection done to your satisfaction and take it back if it fails.

As for Roadside Assistance, I pay $4.70 every six months for that coverage through my auto insurance.

You do need to look at the Invoice costs/options sticky thread and mock up the invoice price of the same truck new as the one at Carmax.

See how the prices compare; if you're not adding the Tech package and a bunch of other stuff you might be so close to achievable new prices as to not be worth buying used.

You can get a brand new 2017 with 0 miles for about $1,500.00 more. MSRP $37,100.00. Can get for about $34,500.00 which is about invoice. Get a new one.

And although this isnt Carmax, and basically common sense, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU BUY USED...

I bought a G35 from a dealership...a year later I traded it in for a truck. The dealership told me there was frame damage. Carfax didnt mention an accident and there was no obvious damage. Car looked almost new. Just a quick story for you guys.

I bought my 16' Limited 4x4 with 4k miles for 33k even from Carmax. Came with OEM Tonneau cover and step rails. I had an overall good experience with them. I will say their prices appear to be very random on these trucks. Same one on the same lot but different color and a few more miles was 36k.

I will say I didn't want to use their financing and went with my credit union, though. My only hangup through the whole deal was that they put front license plate brackets on their vehicles and they weren't willing to patch the holes for me. Other than that I was satisfied with the experience.

If I hadn't been set on a Limited, I would have bought a new Sport or Off Road new for a few thousand more.

Hey I would do the math on the loan for the used one and then find out how much more the payment for the 2017 would be. I did this when I bought my 2012 and the monthly difference was like 20 bucks. Also with a new one you can haggle some.

Also has anyone been complaining about bugs or flaws with the 2016s, being a major change/engine/design? I would love to trade up for a 2016/17 but might give it another year so see what tweaks they make.

Scroll around the 3rd gen forum a bit more....

I've been very happy with my 2017 that I've had six months, but there are some who've expressed a wee bit of unhappiness.

Essentially the same thing, shows the same type of information. But does not have the Carfax flair on it.

I've had a good experience buying from carmax but that seems like too much to me. I paid less for my 2017 4x4 TRD Sport DLCB. NEW

    Very good point.

I was initially looking for a 13-15 Taco .. interest rate on the used taco was around 6-8%. I got mine at 1.99% for the brand new. Also, prices on used are just plain unrealistic. Monthly payment basically the same, if not lower on the brand new. The used taco was priced at 35k.

I've bought three vehicles from CarMax, the last one being my 2014 DCSB TRDOR manual. I didn't plan on buying from them again, but they had the truck I wanted and I felt the price was fair. I've never had a problem with them.
