So my wife's Volvo recently rolled over the 200,000 mile mark and of course today she informed me that she is now getting a "transmission service urgent" message on her console. The little nagging voice that tells me to bail out of this car is now in full effect.

So I spent the day on the interwebs looking at viable options. Strategy is to either buy a new car cheap or buy a really nice car used.

We ended up going to a Ford dealership because they are running great deals right now. Then we went to Carmax.

Is it just me, or does Carmax seem to want new car prices for used cars?

I found one Tacoma on the lot just to see what they wanted for it. It was labeled as a 2016 SR5 and they wanted close to $28,000 for it. The problem was that it was actually an SR. Maybe I'm wrong but it did not have fog lights at all (had the characteristic SR black front), no color keyed wheel well flares (in fact it had no wheel well flare at all), and no SR5 badging anywhere. I know badging can be taken off so that's why I mentioned it last.

So either Carmax has an SR mis-identified as SR5 and priced at a new SR5 price, or they have some weirdo Toyota variation at the new SR5 price point.

Has anyone else noticed this kind of thing at Carmax? Perhaps Toyota has so many variations that it's even confusing to dealerships.

Every dang car in the lot seemed to be priced at new MSRP price points. Maybe this Carmax near me is really majorly bad or something.

Carmax typically seams to be expensive as fuck.
