How bad do you want the manual?

Every day is like "should have gotten the manual"

Or like "auto is ok but maybe manual is better..."

How badly do you want it?

It really comes down to loss vs gain

    $$ vs manual

Well I will put it to yo this way. It just tripped 1800 miles and I caught myself reaching for the gearshift to change gears.

Was your last vehicle a manual?

Mine was and I miss it. But the misses can't drive one so I'm in an auto for only the second time in my life. Out of 15 or so cars.

I still have my '85 pickup manual so I get my fix on that one.

Yes my last Toyota was a 91 4runner 5sp. The previous 5 Toyotas was manual. My wife loves manual. I taught her how to drive manual in my first truck a 1978 Chevy Luv Mikado

I don't know NC sale tax on new vehicle purchases. If it is like AX, you pay sale tax on the difference between the new vehicle price and the trade in vehicle. AZ sale tax runs around 8.6%. So with no trade on a 34K vehicle the tax would be $2924. If you got 32K in trade you would pay $172 on the 2k difference.

So you have to ask yourself. If you do a private sale, will it be more than what the dealership offers + diff in sale tax. I have found it has not been worth the effort to sale vehicles myself. But I also tend to keep my vehicles 8 to 10 years and pay cash for the new vehicle. I just pay myself a car payment each month. In 8-10 years I have enough to purchase a new vehicle with the trade.

Now selling your vehicle to Carmax won't help you out in the sales tax area, unless your buying a Tacoma from them.

    You could try this link:
    https://www.autotrader.com/trade-in-instant-cash-offer
Fill out the form and you'll get a realistic value for your trade in and dealers will contact you if interested. I got 12k for my 06 with 112k miles on her which shaved that much from the local sales tax end of it . Worth a shot imo because if the value adds up to what you want out of your trade they will honor that towards the replacement.
    Good Luck !

They offered 32k and you can get new for 35k. That's a fucking great deal. why the hell would anyone even pay 32k for used when you can get new for 3k more, and that's ignoring the money carmax has to earn.

Not sure about there but in AR you can sell your car private party and still get the tax credit if it is within a certain number of days/months from the purchase of the new vehicle, either before or after.

From my experience if you're trading a vehicle in the Carmax price has been better than what I've been offered on trades. One thing that helped me was using the purchase quote from carmax as leverage with the dealer. Ultimately the dealer beat the carmax asking price when I said I'll be back in an hour after I sell my car to carmax. If you don't mind waiting private party will yield a higher profit but it's to you if you want to wait for the right buyer.

Yes it is. Just finished waxing my black princess and she looks great and she is paid for. Don't know if I'll trade her right now. Nice not owing the bank nothing. Be easier for me to trade when my warranty runs out in November of 2018.

Probably don't like the way the transmission hunts gears. Guy that works part time at the local car wash bought a used one just like that blue one in that link on my post above but his is a 4X4 and Barcelona red. His hunts for gears but he loves the truck. He traded in a chebby silverado I believe it was. He bought his Tacoma the same place I bought mine over in Jasper, IN. This 2.7 of mine only thing I wished I would not of bought another black truck. It gets me around town just fine. I may just get it Line-X'ed and keep it. Won't have to polish and wax it anymore. :D

I was looking for a manual yrs ago and I couldn't get my bride to do the manual. The salesman asked if he could teach her would I buy, yep....... they came back wife in tears, dude pissed, was told she was helpless.... all she said was he was screaming something about a clutch. Had to give her a hug and a simile we left, last time that came up. at least it wasn't something we owned.
