I have a friend with a 2018 Camry w/ Entune w/o Nav and he told me that Toyota sent a software update to allow Camry/Sienna owners to have CarPlay.

Here is the video that he used to do it himself but Toyota will do it for $45 in shop.

So, after watching the video and reading some pdfs from Toyota and on the Camry and Tacoma, I am not sure why Toyota has not done this for the 3rd Gen Tacoma.

I downloaded the files for the Tacoma Entune system and the three files for the Camry on the guys video and opened them up to see the coding. They are the same coding. Files are .kwi or Navigation System Data File (KIWI Format). As I said the file structure is very similar and the head units from 2014 on stopped using Blackberry file structures and switched to Linix.

I am in the process of emailing Toyota USA and ask the question. If the hardware can handle it why haven't they done it. Why do it to two vehicles and not all of them or have just not finished the and plan on rolling it out as sson as they are tested and stable?

Interested if any Toyota employees on this site know anything about this? I am not a true computer code writer so if any computer engineers out there want to look at the files themselves and post if they are exactly the same?

I think read somewhere on here that the entune system in these trucks is a slightly different/older entune than the camry and sienna and isn’t quite capable of carplay

Doesn't the Camry and Sienna have Entune 3.0? That's a different system than the Entune we have. It would be nice if we could update, but I don't see it happening.

That is the difference. Just found another webpage on Toyota.com/entune which explains the difference. Kind of dumb though since the file structures are similar. Oh well, all hope is lost again! Damn you Toyota! LOL
