I installed CarPlay on my 2019 Tacoma TRD Sport. Cost $550 but I didn't want to replace the OEM radio like most Tacomа owners do.

It's a Plug and Play system. Purchased here:

2016 - 2019 Toyota Tacoma (EnTune 2) Apple CarPlay (Wired & Wireless) + Android Auto (Wired & Wireless) + USB Media Player (Controlled by OEM Touch Screen) (OEM Microphone) (naviks.com)

I do not recommend buying a USB retainer from them (Adapter for OEM USB port). It's cheaper on Amazon and there's no unnecessary cable length.
When I bought it, I not sure that this device will work with the aftermarket front parking camera, but everything works fine.

That doesn't look like fun. I'm fine with BT connection and playing music i have loaded on my phone.

How's the resolution? Looks a bit compressed like the other CP solution I've seen, but not sure if thats just the pic

At that price point I don’t see why not to change the entire headunit. Plus you’d get better audio quality doing so

This is a great idea, thanks for sharing. I love carplay, it's a must for me now. Sending this to my buddy with a Tundra who was a couple years too early for integrated carplay.

No idea why you wouldn’t want to replace the factory ‘19 headunit, it’s dog shit.

I don't know about you but I find aftermarket headunits in modern vehicles to never flow quite right and look cheap. I like that this is an option for those of us that value that OEM feel of an interior.

I have no idea. But compared with OEM CP in Toyota, Honda and GM vehicles (I'm a mechanic) and did not see the difference in the picture.

I don't really care about sound quality. Even in my youth I was not a music fan, and even now, when I am 60+, even more so. My level is country style and its sound in Toyota audio is enough for me. At least I do not notice the fundamental difference in the performance of Dolly Parton in my Toyota and my wife's Cadillac. In addition, OEM Toyota's premium audio has several useful features that continue to work. For example, Toyota navigation is saved. We love to travel, and have noticed that the built-in navigation keeps contact with the satellite better than the phone. This is due to the location of the GPS antenna on the roof. Toyota navigation is worse than Waze in everything, but continues to work when the phone loses the satellite. And switching is being done by pressing a button on the steering wheel. At the same time, you can continue to listen to your favorite artists on CarPlay through the online radio tuner.

Any with Apple CarPlay or Android Auto. For music I use Spotify, MyTunerRadio and the like. You may need others. Type music for CarPlay in the Apple Store search and it will show a lot of things. All navigation works, as well as the reader, calendar, messenger and the like.

Yeah, for some reason the normal names in head units like Alpine want it to look aftermarket, but the cheap Dasaita(sp) looks pretty stock.

I did it for CarPlay, a bit more audio amp, and because I was having the stock headunit crash all the time.

lol once again to each their own - but the OEM feel of Toyota's interior is, quite frankly, horseshit in texture and quality. Only worse interior quality I've experienced was probably a mid 2000s Dodge Magnum rental car. That's a pretty low bar, yet Toyota has matched it with the 3rd Gen Taco...
