First off I'll say I posted this issue over in the Audio Visual forum and so far only got 1 reply - check it out:

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/carplay-text-messages-volume-and-speakers-2022-tacoma.803551/

Here's the TLDR - I bought a used 2022 Tacoma TRD Sport with the JBL Premium system this past weekend, so I've had it about 4 days. When I play the radio, SiriusXM, and music/podcasts/etc. on CarPlay, the sound system sounds amazing. Very pleased with it. However when Siri reads my texts, or if I am on a voice call, or if using navigation not only is the volume very low and I cannot adjust it, it also only plays through one speaker - the front driver side.

Is this how it is on all Tacomas? Or am i experiencing a bug? The link i posted above has all of the remedies I have tried (in the original post and subsequent replies).

I apologize for posting again in another forum but I've literally only got 1 reply and this issue is driving me insane. Appreciate any help!

I know you said that you turned up every single volume control possible on the JBL head unit, but did you specifically turn up the voice control under “settings” in the head unit as opposed to knobs or switches? There is a control in settings that makes the navigation voice (and possibly CarPlay voice) louder.

yes i have it turned up to 8 or whatever the max is. i have literally tried everything and posted on about 10 different forums. I even talked to the local stereo shop and he said its just how toyota is and theres no fix other than to get a new HU, which is what all of the feedback i'm getting online also tells me. such a shame

Well, I have a 2023 TRD Pro with 6MT which gives me the Non-JBL premium system and I find that I can turn up the volume of the voice in settings for when I am listening to loud music and then I actually have to turn it down when I have nothing playing. I am talking about the navigation voice furnished by the Toyota navigation system, NOT Carplay using google maps /apple maps for navigation.

2021 Tacoma Limited with JBL here. I dont use that feature often, but I've never had that issue. Is the voice call through CarPlay? Or the standard bluetooth connection?

How are you connected to CarPlay? Cord or do you have a wireless adapter?

2020 Pro and 2022 Pro here. Have the exact same issue with both. I’ve gone into settings and turned the volume all the way up. Still not loud enough when using the phone. Drives me crazy!

I've had something similar happen. Usually after rebooting my iPhone the volume works properly.

    Not really a good answer.

I know this is a little old, but last week my iPhone and CarPlay with calls is very weak. I now have to adjust the volume when I get calls oe make a call to around 45. I dont remember it being this high before, below 25-31 it's like the person is whispering depending on speed and wind noise. I did the Toyota update, https://www.toyota.com/firmware-updates and it helped a little, going from 55 to 45 to hear a voice.

    Any thoughts?

I see this same behavior on my 2021 TRD Sport with the JBL system. This is by far the worst factory car play radio I have used. Coming from Ford's Sync 3 where the system would automatically quiet down the music when making announcements and such. Highly considering going aftermarket.

The JBL head unit is hot garbage. The whole system is lackluster and I wish I didn't have it.
I suggest swapping the head unit entirely. Nothing really makes this one any better. Trust.

Highly thinking about swapping out for the Pioneer 6600NEX that almost looks factory.

damn. I have no real issues with the head unit it works flawlessly all the time. sometimes I wish it could go a little louder but it works fine.

I did have one issue that came about 2x where the microphone wouldn't work, when making calls no one could hear me & I could hear them. turnout to be a phone issue and a phone restart solved it.

silly Q but did you force restart the phone (up volume, down volume, hold lock button until the screen goes off and not letting go until the apple pops back up?

yes, I did all that and then on the phone with Apple and we did it again. We even disconnected the bluetooth and redid everything as if it was a new phone

I like Pioneer, but I want Nav on my head unit, since I can get 10 miles from town and be out of cell service.

If I find the cash, I think I would go with the
    Pioneer AVIC-W8600NEX
