Anyone using Carquest Synthetic Motor Oil in their Tacoma? I heard it is made by Valvoline but then heard some batches are not up to Valvoline standards as far as additives. Can anyone confirm that this is a decent oil? Thank you

All oils sold have to meet certain minimum requirements. Bet Carquest oil comes out of the same hole in the ground as Castrol, Pennzoil or Mobile. Long as it is synthetic and the right weight and you change it at the proper intervals you will be fine.

The general consensus on BITOG is oil brand doesn't matter. As long as you buy name brand oil, in the correct spec & weight specified for your vehicle, and follow mfr OCI.

Everything else is emotional opinion to justify someone's own oil of choice.

Pick something you can easily find, afford, and change regularly along with an OEM filter.

Carquest and NAPA oil are Valvoline.

I’ve used NAPA for years. Its gtg. Carquest is surely the same.

Well i'm not a fan of valvoline, but that would start fights when it comes to oil debates. Valvoline is like the Sams cola of oils

I believe that Amazon basics oil is made by Warren. Warren also makes Walmart Super Tech, I believe Kirkland and some other private labels. They are a large global lubricant manufacturer. Bob's oil has articles on them.

I have not personally used it but I'm considering it because it meets all the standards of toyota, GM and others. Amazon sells there's for about what you pay for mobile one and other brands at walmart so I would not pay that for the same thing they sell for less. I'd get it for less or get name brand for the same @ Wally world. Amazon is convenient for sure having it at your door though.
I used to use Castrol GTX when I had gas vehicles before and Rotella in Diesels. Super tech is $14 for 5 quart jugs and Castrol GTX magnetech is $20 for the same. Tough call as $5-6 isn't going to break the bank. Of course if they are equal then $6 staying in my pocket is good as well.

fixed it for you I used to read an oil trade industry trade publication called “Lubes and Greases”
Several times a year they’d write about off branded oil coming to market that didn’t meet specifications.
Seems they’ve figured out how to counterfeit the starburst symbol and package whatever and sell to unsuspecting consumers. It’s a real problem but hardly anybody talks about it.

Can you imagine someone would do this? Um yes they would. Buy only from trusted sources. I’ve received a used oil filter from Walmart, seems some asshole did this to get his money back, hey money is tight. Also have seen Mobil 1 sold at O Reilly’s in a jug with broken seal, employee theft?
Buyer beware regardless. Lubes and Greases I highly recommend, every bit as good as bobisthe oil guy

Sure there is a difference between synthetic oils some are more finer, and have better qualities...than others
By the way I like Mobil...I have being using it for a. very long , long time...

We all want the best for our trucks....The brands ,synthetic or not...changing oil on a timely base ..
Should yield almost the same results....in the end with any brand. We all want to ..protect our engines...

Does brands matter? For some of us it does...and it does for me...because...some brands ,do out perform others..
Car quest oil....I dealer brand are usually cheaper..?
    Aloha

I know this will raise some hackles, but since Toyota care is done. I'm using Redline oil this spring. That won't be the part that raises hackles, but i'll still change it every six months just because i'm bored and read that even despite my trucks ultra low mileage it still qualifies as extreme conditions.

I really never understood the oil site a punch of people wondering what oil to get peak performance out of a Pontiac Sunfire is all I got. In some cases that oil is worth more than the car.

Depends on what additive package is used when blending any oil synthetic, or mineral how well it performs. Like said they all begin from roughly the same place.

Remember the movie “The Best of the Best? 1,2,3?
    Aloha

Amsoil and Redline have longer oil change ..(20,000 + miles between oil changes)...please research this further...

Pick a brand you are comfortable with, that's easy to get in your area. get the viscosity the vehicles manual calls for. Change it often as possible per the maintenance schedule you should be on per your use of the vehicle. Use a quality filter and you should not have to worry.
Folks fight over oil brands in every vehicle forum and here they argue over 5,000 or 10,000 OCI. Its all the time.
