Hello all. I’m stumped. My driveshaft carrier bearing went out so I got A new one and put it on. The new part had almost more play in it than the old. So naturally, I picked up another one. Same thing. What would cause this? 2 bad parts in a row?

I am pretty sure the carrier bearing has play/movement from the get go. you can jiggle it for sure.

what kinda movement are you talking about.?

We've found all but OEM have lots of play, even good 3rd party name brands.

I’m talking an inch or more of play. Returned the *2nd* Auto Zone part for a NAPA part.

some of it has more to do with being aftermarket and/or remanufactured parts. some don't tolerance them right, some, i guess mis-read the tolerance required.

i understand going with aftermarket, but the crapshoot is really just to keep trying different brands to find one that toleranced it correctly. oem likely does as well, for at leas 2x's the cost...

I mistakenly changed out a carrier bearing once. I yanked on it and it jiggled. turned out that is kinda the deal.

I had one really go out recently and it made a racket. on the garage floor it looked cooked.

The bearing is mounted in rubber for a reason. Yes it will have some movement up and down and side ways that is normal.
