Indeed. Hope that little girl was young enough to have little memory of the event and that she didn't suffer any permanent hearing loss. Could have been MUCH worse though. Good job good guys .

... ^^^ ... These are basically my thoughts too ... but I do have a newly found respect for a chambered round in some situations (especially LEOs) ...

What would the point be of putting the safety on without a round chambered? The gun is already inherently safe at that point. On my carry weapon, I can't even engage the safety without cocking the hammer...

On the firing line, LOAD, MAKE READY and HOLSTER.

If you're carrying without a round in the chamber, you're not ready.

You lose fine motor skills, like correctly cycling the slide, in high pressure situations. There was a vid out which showed the results of not doing it correctly... terminal lead poisoning.

Memory of the event? Likely. She's little, but strong memories are retained unless they are traumatic enough to be suppressed. Hopefully she DOES remember so this event does not manifest as issues later.
I have spotty memories as early as 2-3 years old.

    Permanent hearing damage? Not likely.
My hearing is shot, but more from rock and roll and motorcycles than from the occasional outing in the desert with dad shooting the 30-06 and 30-30 without eyes or ears.

Today? Ya... one round from a 45 unprotected within 10ft will have my high frequency hearing (such as it is) shot for a week, and my constant ringing will kick up a notch in volume for a month.

So far I've added an Advance folding bed cover and since removed it. Gave it to my son in Maine, he has an 05 2wd. GT perfect fit seat covers. Weathertech floor mats and window vent visors. Waag center brush/grill guard. Hose clamp tailgate mod. Turned off the seat belt chime. Added Ultra-Gauge. Trailer hitch. Softopper. Replaced sun visors with slide out style. Toyota bed extender. Had Firestone Destinations and now Michelin LTX AT2 in stock size. More mods to come; Fog lights, locking storage in bed, intermittent wipers. Now looking for Radio/HU upgrade. and maybe a lift way down the road.
    :yay: bad guy down.

Always one chambered. My keltec pf9 doesn't have a safety...just a double trigger. I feel like it is plenty safe.

I carry a compact Springfield XD 45. Has a safety on the trigger and grip. Always chambered with the Gold Dots, only way to go. Although my 9mm has a pretty easy thumb safety that is kinda nice to have and easy to get to.

As someone who carries a gun daily at work, it's hard for me to take anyone seriously who isn't confident enough to carry a weapon with a round in the chamber. If you don't have the discipline not to pull the trigger before you're ready, you don't need to carry a gun.

When I started out carrying, I was worried my gun would fall out of the holster or something, and I considered not chambering a round. I got a thumb-break holster, and it made me feel alot more secure having a gun on me.

I have a buddy who has shown me his loading drill a bunch of times where he will draw, rack the pistol on his way up, and say "Bang". He has shown me several times, and I can't help but laugh every time. Not too long ago, he called me and said he almost shot himself in the foot with his friend's pistol because it had some kind of competition hair trigger that was too light. My first question was, "Why was your finger on the trigger pulling it out of the holster?" He is the kind of newbie that doesn't chamber a round.

Just a general question, are you all police officers or in the military? Is any one of you a regular citizen like me, where never been in the milirary, or the police force?
