i might as well just have a rock in the holster if im not going to have one in the chamber waiting.

that being said, i prefer my revolver.. but have a semi .40 that was my first concealed carry. i swapped immediately after a virginia state trooper came a millimeter from killing himself with it.

the .40 in question is a S&W sigma sw40ve. no safety minus the trigger.. nothing really special. from what i understand it was actually police issue at one point.

anyways.. i was .. 25 or close enough to it living in virginia beach. it was during a gap in my military service. had my ccw for a few years and was driving a little v6 ranger on the highway headed straight to the beach from my parents house. it was maybe a little after 2-3pm.. bright sunny day..

and this cop was doing 53 in a 55.

now, generally speaking... DO NOT mess with VA staties. they dont play. but seriously.. 53 in a 55? no thanks. im going to get my surf on.

i passed him at maybe, MAYBE 57mph. obviously i got pulled over.

now, since va staties dont play, and i just want to get this over with, i take both my little hands and put them out the window. the international sign for please dont freaking shoot me.

i always kept the .40 in the door pocket. the soft holster i got slid in there nicely and since im left handed it was pretty convenient.

so, im getting lectured about this guys 18 years on the force.. how dangerous his job is... obviously bro, youre standing three feet from traffic because i was doing a few over the speed limit.

im always respectful to cops. theres no reason not to be. i was kinda curious what kinda ticket i was going to get for this. is passing a cop illegal?

anyways... he knows i have a weapon, i tell him where it is when he asks. SO HE LEANS INTO MY TRUCK TO GRAB IT. head, shoulders... everything. no caution whatsoever.

if that wasnt bad enough, his hand slips as hes taking it out of the holster and it falls to the floorboard. im a little nervous now. he just dropped the firearm i specifically told him had one in the chamber and no mechanical safety.

continues to lecture me about how dangerous his job is while fishing around for the loaded gun on my floorboard. waist up in the cab. im very confused and not really comfortable with the situation.

finally retrieves it from my floorboard. drops the mag and sets the mag on my windshield wiper. seriously?

for some reason he had trouble racking the slide back to eject the round. he tried a few times.. doesnt even think twice and pressed the muzzle to his chest, bends at the waist a bit and continues to struggle with the slide. i am absolutely crapping myself at this point.

all i can think about is how close his thumb is to the trigger. i can picture it clearly still.. gun goes off, and if the hollow point doesnt kill him, falling back into traffic certainly would. and im going to get my ass beat to death by the two dozen cops that show up and dont check the dash cam.

his thumb. on. the.. oh god im going to die.

he gives up after a few tries and hands it to me. while pointing it at me. i had to grab the barrel and take it to eject the round as he asked. i mean, every safety rule i had ever been taught was broken in less than three minutes by a supposed 18 year veteran.

and the whole time.. im still getting lectured about my driving and kids these days.... never asked for my id, never gave me a ticket.. nothing.

just the scariest stop i could imagine past me having like 3 or 4 mutilated bodies in the bed and going to jail.

i went out and picked up a S&W 642 shortly after. it still freaks me out how close he was to discharging the damn thing into his heart. i mean.. wtf was he thinking?? driving 53 in a 55! THE NERVE

Has anyone ever tried carrying a blank round in the chamber? The risk of accidental discharge (with a fatality) is much lower but if crap hits the fan you'll just have to pull the trigger and the rest of the rounds would be real. Idk, I'm only 17 but when I turn 21 I'd like to carry concealed.

    ?

I'm not sure I understand the point of having a blank round... as a warning shot?
I wouldn't give anyone the courtesy of a warning shot if I were in the need of drawing my weapon.

Is this in case of an accidental discharge you don't harm someone?
If you're that worried then don't carry one in the chamber.

    Dumb idea.

There is no such thing as an accidental discharge... they are negligent discharges and are 100% preventable.

might as well just carry a hammer if youre not going to have a round chambered.

if you dont feel comfortable carrying loaded, dont carry. or dont carry with the intent of being useful or defensible.

Just keep a rock in your pocket and throw it at them, it will serve the same purpose that you are in search of, however, the time that you take to shoot off the dummy round or throw the rock you may be on the ground in pain or not breathing anymore.

You won't have the back pressure with a blank to have the slide racked and chamber from the mag.

So firing a blank in a weapon not intended for blank firing is risky and malfunctions are imminent.

1.) the whole hammer thing is entirely untrue.

2.) I train hard and carry chambered

3.) not everyone does or knows their weapon yet. There are situations, such as a total newb to firearms and cc whom I would advise not to carry chambered until they've trained a little and gotten familiar with it.

4.) if someone didn't want to carry chambered, they can still carry. Don't be ignorant. It is better to have a gun when something happens and be slower to engage than to have nothing (or a hammer).

I clarify again: I Carry Chambered. (I also train with my firearms unlike most)
But just because I carry chambered doesn't mean everyone in every single circumstance always should no matter what just because I say so. That is ignorant douchery.

So, "Personal and situational. No right answer."

Go ahead and proceed with your generic answers and untrue generalizations.

i almost put that in there.. if youre just getting a new firearm or license, carry it empty to get used to it. carry it everywhere. but he was talking about just being scared of shooting his foot off or some shit. a blank in the chamber is dangerous for a few reasons.

    also, lighten up francis.

I'm not sure that blanks will cycle the weapon reliably.

They absolutely will not cycle a semi-auto properly.
Theatrical guns are specially modified to fire blanks and have not only a pin in the barrel to prevent discharge (this was done after Brandon Lee's death), but the recoil spring is generally replaced with a lighter spring. The blank will cycle it, and a regular round will damage the frame.
