Just wondering if anyone carries in their truck here in Ca? Is it legal to keep one in the truck without a concealed carry permit? Does it have to be locked/ unloaded? My buddy and I ran into a pretty bad drunk driver/ road rage incident the other night and neither one of us had our guns on us. So now i'm considering keeping one in the truck full time, and if need be looking into a CC permit. Please keep this just California people as I know the laws in other states are much more lenient...

I could be wrong so somebody correct me if I am. I am over cautious.

In California, as far as I know, without a CC permit, you cannot have a gun in the cab. You can keep them in the trunk of a car (bed of truck) unloaded and in a locked case.

California is so stupid on their gun laws. If you are in a place with concealed carry available, do it. I am not so it sucks.

Hell I carry them in the cab all the time just for transportation to/ from the range... There's no way I'm putting them in the bed of the truck without a lockable tonneau or shell.

Not quite. For pistols, it must be unloaded and in a locked container. The term "locked container" means a secure container which is fully enclosed and locked by a padlock, key lock, combination lock, or similar locking device. This includes the trunk of a motor vehicle, but does not include the utility or glove compartment. You can have the firearm in the cab of the vehicle so long as it is in a locked container (without a CCW).

Long guns do not have any lock or vehicle travel restrictions other than they must be unloaded.

X2, Locked and unloaded anywhere in the vehicle. Unlocked and unloaded in the trunk. Unlocked and Unloaded anywhere for long guns.

Unloaded meaning magazine can be loaded but not inserted into firearm.

So let me get this strait? You openly admit to transport firearms all the time in your truck and yet you start a thread because you don't know firearm transportation laws in a vehicle?

Yes, in their locked containers on the way to the range. I'm talking about carrying a loaded one for self defense here.

You can't legally carry a loaded firearm in your vehicle in CA without a CCW.

This and they are not very easy to get at the moment in orange county. You can get on a waiting list but if you are not already in the process and have had your first meeting with the Sheriff it may not happen.

when i bought my glock from some FFL guy, he told me he was an ex sheriff. i paid him and he suggested i put the pistol safety cable thru the action for my ride home. i do that now. cable the gun, put it in the gun case, lock it and drive to my shooting spots.

overkill. but whatever. i'm too cute for prison. and this is supposed to be for fun. explaining it to the cops aint fun.

I am so glad I live in Arizona land of the free. The few times that I have been pulled over for a little over the speed limit lol. The first thing I say to the officer is "for my protection and yours there is a gun in my vehicle. ". We always end up talking about handguns and the infraction is forgotten. It's a nice piece. A 22 year old tactical colt commander. My first hand gun bought when I was a 18 year old Marine in Arizona :oldglory:I love this state.

A lift, some wheels, some tires, some performance, some cosmetic and then audio.
Besides my CCW on me, if I'm transporting my firearms to and from point A to B and back to A to a gunsmith, range and etc...its always unloaded and locked up in my cab.

i think its best explained in Calguns forums for other info for transporting firearm in a vehicle. CCW is on your own person.

Move to a free state and carry locked and loaded in your vehicle. Open or concealed.

Definitely not worth getting arrested for transporting a firearm incorrectly.

Yeah I saw that. Not trying to hijack, but are you allowed to have pinned mags or can you not have any sort of potential over 10 mags?
