Yeah that's great for static but dynamic which means as the vehicle is moving and depending upon the terrain drops the capacity value usually by 2/3s.

WHAT IS THE WEIGHT CAPACITY OF MY LEER FACTORY INSTALLED THULE ROOF RACK SYSTEM?
When factory-installed on a LEER Model 100XQ, 100XL, 100XR, 100R, 100RCC, 180, 180CC, or 122, the Thule AeroBlade has a maximum load capacity of 220 lbs. and Tracker II Roof Rack systems have a maximum load capacity of 165 lbs. There are other critical factors when safely carrying and securing loads to your roof rack and dash - always refer to the owner's manual provided with your Thule roof rack prior to use.

This is right off of Leers website in the FAQ section.

A rtt i never use and 30 light bars
mines like 150lbs I dont carry anything upthere except my 4 ditch lights, one on every corner and thats like 10-15lbs? But when I do go out for a trip ill put the 5gallon gas (40lbs) and my traction boards (15lbs). I have thought about putting a lil cargo box from harbor freight up there for more storage but at the end of the day it is fiberglass and when youre in those offroad places things shake crazy and can slowy crack.

For my Leer, the only rating I could find from the manufacturer was the dynamic load.

The HD racks don’t actually carry weight on the topper. There are 4 posts through the topper that connect to the frame inside. The weight they carry is on the internal frame. Those are designed to carry weight.

I know I read about it on the manufacture website while back... HD toppers carry more weight then non HD toppers do. But non HD topper can handle the tent fine as long as you park it at the trails.. but bed stiffeners are required if you go on bumpy trails with RTT on it.

I have been watching off roading videos on youtube for years... Especially the bed racks, toppers, all that stuff.

I looked into this until I just gave up asking. My best guess is none of the topper manufacturers want to be responsible for stupid people doing stupid things. I figured if it breaks it’s on me so I put a front runner rack on it and loaded it with a 100 lb tent and slept in it off and on for a year.

I had no issues so I added 150 lb tent and my wife and I both slept in it a few times, still no issues.

I did finally decide I didn’t want it to collapse on my wife and I so I reinforced it myself. So far no problems.

I use it when I go light wheeling and overlanding. No real issues.

I know this thread is slightly old but what specifically are bed stiffeners? Are there products to build those internal topper frames?

I have crossed the country multiple times just like this and more:

Should be able to carry a RTT you would think, especially if I added a thrid cross member? The truck and top will soon be 18 yo.

Truck Bed stiffeners are sold in a pair of L-Shaped steel brackets that strengthen your bed, tailgate, and bedsides. Their purpose is to reinforce your bed which reinforces the tailgate frame to prevent flexing and cracking.

Those can be used for offroad if you carry RTT or whatever you carry heavy load on top. So the bedsides won't flex when stiffeners are installed.

I am selling a 23zero Kabari RTT that weighs over 200 lbs with the crossbars and solar panels on it and have a guy with a FG Leer cap that wants to put it up there with a Prinsu rack, just curious of people's thoughts. It is a big and heavy tent and I have it mounted to an overland rack with a bunch of extra support.

I have an Leer 100LR something or other(Basic Fiberglass Topper) and have had a couple different tents up there no problem. I installed FrontRunner Tracks and 1" unistrut on the inside under the tracks. I also have bed stiffeners. I have never had a problem or even worried about a problem. There has been zero movement, deflection, or hint of weakness out of the cap in the years I have had it.

I've been interested in the Milford Load Max canopy reinforcement brackets for some years now for my Gen 1. There have been a few people -- maybe on TW? -- that have had them shipped over from Australia and used with their Tacomas.

It looks like a nice system. One might need to be creative to mount it to Gen 2 onward, but that's usually doable.
