It really isn't as bad as it may seem. 3 is a bit iffy especially for a tacoma but two is really not bad. I have a 2nd gen access cab and I rarely go without my brother so I always have two bikes in the truck. As long as you do a good job tying them down then there is really no reason to worry.

TRDreamin. If you have any doubts or would like to see what im talking about let me know and I will throw the bikes in the back of my truck tomorrow morning and get some pictures up for you.

I am with you on that tigerfan! Just having the tailgate down makes me nervous enough.

I knew with all the ingenuity floating around this place, someone had to have pulled it off before.

    Tint, Clear Corners,
We've had 3 in the back of my buddies doublecab and 3 in my x-cab.

All you have to do is position the handlebars a certain way.:)

Why does the tailgate down make you nervous? If it really did come down to being a big deal with the gate down the just get/make a bed extender and your all good.

Edit: I will throw the bikes in tomorrow when I get a chance. They need to be washed and have the oil changed so I guess I might as well do it now instead of the night before a race like I usually do

    Working on that...
Yeah, I didn't literally mean that one but I was curious if anyone knew of a sturdier one that was intended for dirtbikes. I'll probably look into adding some D-rings too. Thanks for the input.

Yeah maybe I'll do something like that, we'll see.

having my tailgate down doesnt necessarily make me nervous...i figure if a bike gets to moving around back there...a tailgate aint gonna stop it from leaving the bed if it wants to fall out...

im more concerned with securely tying them down without extra tiedowns

and i dont like having my tailgate down because then all my trash blows all over the road and i dont like littering

You're the man red taco. You might be the one that tips me over the edge and persuades me to let a bud take his bike with mine! haha

    Alright hope this works.

So for starters I moved my cleats up as far as they would go forward as to try to get it closest to how it would be in a 1st gen. I did it the way where you angle the tires towards each other to hold them in the middle.

I started by putting the first bike in and tying it down loosely so that I could go get the other bike. [IMG]

Then I got the other bike and tied it down loosely also so that I could move them around so that the handlebars wouldn't bang up against each other and I could position the tires how I wanted them.

Finally I tightened both bikes from the Outside first. Its easier imo to tighten them to the outside first because you know they are tight and not just leaning into each other like they can do if you tighten the inside first. Then I tighten the inside last and just make sure that they wont move around too much.

    Hope this helps!

Haha same question I'm asking my savings account now....
If I do it won't be until school is out, I asked about this now to find out if I should even bother saving. I think I probably will so now we wait...
