    1990's Pontiac Grand Prix
    2006(maybe) Ford Ranger

My son-in-law has one just like this one with almost 300 thousands miles, and still going strong. The biggest problem he has had with his is keeping the AC putting out cool air

I see more than a few people went from F150s to Tacomas in this thread.

Why did you all make the jump?

The F150 is basically the standard bearer of all trucks. I have been seriously thinking about getting a raptor one day

Before I owned a truck I had ridden/driven many miles in various F-Series trucks. When I decided to buy a truck, Ford wasn't even on my radar. One test drive in a Tacoma was all it took for me to be hooked.

I don't know what it is :notsure:

My vehicle history (mainly Toyota). Added some notes just because I was feeling nostalgic.

1: 1972 Toyota Celica: my high school car. Great 18RC engine and great 4-speed manual tranny......total rustbucket......shock towers collapsed into engine bay due to rust. Sold for $100 scrap. Note: With chains on the back wheels, the Celica would go anywhere......travelled many snowy logging roads in the little beater.

2:1987 Mazda B2600 5spd manual 4x4: My first 4WD. solid truck, great everything, but totally shitty Mitsubishi engine. The 2.2 in the B2200 was a reliable Mazda engine, but the 2.6 was a cantankerous crappy Mitsi engine in the 4x4. Same junk engine used in the lemon Dodge caravans. Contemplated a re-power after a few years of suffering, sold it off for $2000 to a guy who needed one for parts. I swore to myself one day I’d buy myself a nice Toyota 4wd when I could afford it.

3:1991 Toyota Corolla 5sp 4-door manual: Amazing car. Like a go-cart it was so light. Drove it across Canada, lightly off-roaded it, endless road trips. Super great no nonsense vehicle. Gave it to my mom when I met my wife who had a newer Nissan Altima at the time (which was an absolute POS car.....terrible...shoulda kept the Corolla). My mom drove the Corolla for a few years then gave it to my brother. Car finally was not worth putting a new clutch and shocks in so got scrapped with about 520K on the odo.

4:1993 Camry 4dr auto: Another total home-run for Toyota. Got the car used and drove it for 13 years and never even put a fan belt on it. It got brake pads, oil, and the timing belt replaced on schedule. Super great car, but felt nervous about packing the family in a car with no air bags, so eventually traded it in on a new Camry (which is now my wife’s Car)

(At this point in my life I started being provided a company 4x4 for my job, typically a Ranger, lately an F150, so my dreams of owning my own 4X4 were put on the back burner)

5:2015 Camry 4dr auto: Awesome car. Drives great, not annoying in any way. Design is highly refined after so many years, and everything makes perfect sense. Lots of power even in the 4sp auto, and not bad looking for a sedan. Still own it, and plan to for foreseeable future. Best driving car I’ve ever had.

6:2017 Tacoma TRD OR 4wd auto. Finally splurged and bought myself a nice new Toyota truck like I always wanted. Loved everything about it until I joined Tacoma World......now I’m annoyed by everything about it.....no gas cap holder.....whistling A-arms......scratches on my instrument cluster.....and so on and so on and so on. Thanks alot guys......my dream was shattered.

It came down to “life changes” for me. I sold it to pay off my wife’s vehicle and to put cash down on our forever home. I enjoyed the F150, it had the 3.5 eco, a ton of torque, plenty of space, and averaged 18-20mpg. When it came to buying another vehicle I realized that I’m a Toyota guy. I love the looks, interior, reliability, resale value and nimbleness of the Tacoma. The maintenance costs also steered me away from going back to ford. If I were to go back to full size it would be a Tundra. I would take a look at the new chevy’s but I don’t think I’d every pull the trigger and if money wasn’t a issue a raptor would be badass.
