My "18" JLU Rubicon has it as well.
Not a big deal to disable by button (temp) or permanent (fuse).

Or just not wearing your seatbelt.

I recently rented a 2019 wrangler that had this. I found it odd, but really didnt mind. I saw the dash button to turn this feature off, in case i did find it annoying.

What kind of confused me was that when I went to start the vehicle by pushing the start button, it would sound like a normal starter rotating to start the engine. But when the engine was off, and i released the brake pedal, I wouldnt hear the normal starter sound. I have no clue why, but is there a secondary starter (quieter?) that does this, so it doesnt add additional strain to the regular starter motor?

My wife’s Ford transit connect work van has this. I hate it. The first time I drove it two weeks ago I called her and said to take it for warranty work until she informed me it is supposed to do that. Luckily it has a button to disable on dash. I tried to punch it through traffic and that split second almost got me t-boned. How much gas does it actually save? It will probably cost hundreds of dollars to replace the damn starter in a year when it fails!

I have driven these a few times. It does take getting used to certainly and for heavy city driving I bet it saves fuel (the goal). For those of us that rebuilt starters as kids this feels concerning, and the actual starting stopping starting stopping can definitely be startling to the point of obnoxious. My wife is a put gas in her (car) when it either runs out or the light comes on when she happens to be already at a gas station kind of car noises aware type, and wouldn’t even notice these cycles. I on the other hand can hear wet leaves in the bed shifting and the cycles drive me nuts.

We have to assume this is a wave of the future feature and car company’s have huge incentives to get one of the few quantitative numbers on the sticker (theoretical mpg) up. So they will resolve the mechanics issues and if they can solve the start line lag and the start up sound we will get used to it.

When 4 wheel independently mounted high torque independently controlled electric motors are standard on these trucks someday with a high tech battery by one of these bazillionaires we are all sending money to everyday we will look back at this feature and laugh.

you fockers remember when cars simply 'car'd'? It was a car. It did car things. The driver had control and responsibility for its safe operation. The headlights. The Gd-damn wipers nowadays control themselves. Ugh.

Newest car I've owned, by model year? 2007.

I don't know about dual starters but the new JL jeeps do have dual batteries. One of the batteries is used to run the ess system.

I find it remotely odd that the start/stop feature is one of the biggest headaches posted on the jeep forums. Like literally people whine about this on a daily.

I mean...its a button just below the starter button. Lol. If you do it a few times, muscle memory takes over and you just hit the starter button and then drop your finger down and turn the ess off. It's not that difficult.

I guess technically, it's down and to the right.

It is. It's layed out very well and has a nice updated feel. One of the reasons I chose it over a TRD T4R. Well, that and a few of those extra buttons. :D

I think those interiors have some similar feel to Gen3 Tacoma’s...or perhaps it’s the other way around?

I hate adaptive cruise control. Can it be disabled to work like tradition cruise control?

Yes I hate it too. I drove an Avalon as a rental and I did not find a way to switch it to traditional cruise.

    Too few to list.
So if a bunch of people hate the stop/start thing, do you hate the cylinder deactivation too (usually found in V6/V8) for fuel savings?

I had a rental Chevy Silverado with cylinder deactivation for several weeks when my company truck was in the body shop. That was also a little weird because it feels like the vehicle is stalling out on the freeway. It’s a mad new world where full size trucks get better MPG than mid sizers but with lots more power.

I think there is more of a savings with the cylinder deactivation than start/stop. I drove a loaded suburban with the cylinder deactivation for a week. That thing had a crazy range due to the cylinder deactivation. I never noticed (physically) when it would deactivate the cylinders or restart them.

Thats cause it just cut fuel to those cylinders. They were still moving so you’d never notice . Unless one injector failed then you’d feel the imbalance
