looks like an advertisement for car dealers..... 10-15% savings can be a significant amount of savings, not only on the car, but the payment as well.

I really wanted to buy a used Tacoma, but the price difference was almost miniscule on 2nd gens. Hell, there were first gens with 180k miles for right around $16k. Once it became clear how much I would have to spend or a 10 year old truck, I opted for a new one.

I shopped around and didn't visit a single dealership in DFW until I got prices on paper, I ended up paying 1300 under invoice. When you couple that with a 180k mile truck and not knowing exactly how taken care of it was, it was an easy decision.

Part of me, though I love the '13, still wishes I could have found an' 03-'04 double cab for a reasonable price that I knew had been pampered. I decided that was pretty unlikely outside of an estate sale.

    Bone stock for now....
I bought my 2013 in December and went through the same thing. One year old trucks with 50,000 miles or more were just a few grand less than brand new, didn't make sense to me.

I was attracted to the Tacoma, much like my wife's CRV, due to high resale value, which to me is the other side of the coin when it comes to true vehicle cost, so it made it relatively easy to pay for a new one.

In the case of the Dodge and Mitsubishi, you'll want to buy new because you'll need every hour of warranty available.
In the case of the Tacoma, used values are so close to new that you may as well just buy new unless you're getting a killer deal, or are looking at a model that's 4+ years old.

My story is similar to everyones. Spent two years searching for the great white buffalo (1st gen in great shape with low miles) only to find beat to hell ones with 150k miles for around $15k. Second gens with 50k miles and maybe $5k less than a new truck so I bought a new truck.

Mine was $13,500. 2008 with 54k on it, bought December 2010.
Original MSRP on my model was $14,280
MSRP on a 2012 with the same configuration would have been $18,870
So I saved $5k over buying a new truck by settling for a 54k truck that was 3 years old.... but there's just something about the truck only losing $800 in value in 3 years.
