I dont see how, but my 2023 trd off road, 9800 miles, went up 3k in value from last month. 40200 trade today, msrp was 40185 I believe. I paid 38500, plus doc fee 499. Then, on pickup, I negotiated 400 more off due to scratches, so 38600 plus tax.

I may take it to a dealer and see what they offer. I am fine with the truck, but it's getting close to making sense looking at 2024s. I see them discounted 2k already.

I know what you mean, but my rate is 3.99 and I did not finance the entire truck. I will add everything up probably later tonight and come up with an exact price where it makes sense to go.

So buy a 23 and drive it off the lot and instantly lose $$$$ then turn around and buy an overpriced 4th gen? I guess it’s your money and if you like turbos!?

And sales tax. In CT That would be ~ $2,500.

Typically ditching a vehicle this soon after buying it is a losing proposition financially. As others have mentioned, there are sunk costs (taxes, interest paid, mods, etc) that you will not recoup.

But if a new 24 trips your trigger and you can absorb the loss on selling the 23 to Carvana, then do what makes you happy. As my financial advisor likes to say, many financial decisions are emotional!!

Sounds like you like the 24' a lot more. If a few thousand is no big deal to you then get it.

If I didn't have $6K in mods, I would do it too.

Right now used values reflect dealers not having enough of any Tacomas to sell for the last few months. As Gen4 inventories catch up this summer, and Gen3 trade-ins increase, you might see resale values settle down a bit. Best bet is still a “hold” until EOY, if you’re looking to trade into a new one.

A lot here don't know how things work. If you think full tax would be paid you need to get out in the world. If I was to get 40k, and say the new tacoma was 43, I pay tax on 3k.

At least OP’s looking at Tacomas. Possible serial monogamist. Reminds me of one of my wife’s many brothers - he was a serial monogamist. Each girlfriend had a one year shelf life and then he went right into another girlfriend. I’ve refused to learn their names anymore.

True, if you trade it in. If you sell it outright on your own you don’t get that. Did you identify you were trading it in?

My 2020 has been consistently valued at or above what I paid for it. But I'd have to pay $50K+ to replace it with a new one.
So inflation needs to be considered as part of the depreciation.

    As of
I typically keep my trucks 15 years. I'm not the guy that needs new. But, this situation is a bit different. Usually trade in on a less than 1 year old car is way less than the original msrp. This case it's equal. So if I trade in, and get a good price on a 2024, it would be like almost driving 9k miles for free, or very little yearly cost.

Yeaaa-aaah, thought the whole point of buying a Toyota was to drive it until the wheels fall off, fix it until they fall off again.

Just assume people who flip vehicles often are severely depressed…and will never be satisfied with whatever. :)

Not a bad idea either at that cost. Most of the things on the 4th gen seem better.
(Except for the lack of a physical key, lack of real dials with needles, and slightly reduced “flex” between wheels and frame for off-camber situations, and slightly reduced turning radius; and what seems to be weird external crinkly lines and an odd buttocks.)

The heart wants what the heart wants.
